Subway didn't destroy the dollar or the labor market.
But they did forget that their place in the market was cheap food. They were a pure price point and convenience option. Not nobody was going to Subway because they had the best subs or good subs. They went to Subway because it was cheap and right around the corner. Lose the comparatively cheap aspect and there's probably a better option right around the corner.

True, but the $5 footlong was a temporary stunt that likely lost money to franchisees. It wasn't the normal state of things even at that time.

Of all the things that have made the price of fast food skyrocket, most of them point at the government and fed.

You're right about the overall increase but what has been the primary cause of Subway's relative slide is trying to reinvent themselves. Reinvention of massive organizations are extremely difficult to pull off.
