Been looking at various tire bead breaking tools and see a range of styles and prices. Have seen reports from fellow wheelers regarding the BeadBuster brand being good but also twice the price of other options. Anyone use some of the other style/priced options for duct taped 20" wheels with 42" tires? Here are a few options I have looked at. Is it 'you get what you pay for' or not.

BeadBuster XB-554

edit- can't add photos linked from Amazon apparently.

I have the BB550 and it works great. If you have a cordless impact, it takes seconds to bust 46” tire beads off Stazworks rims. (Double bead locks)

I have the Vevor one. Works fine. Takes a little practice to know how hard to clamp the rim for the right angle but I've never had it not break one free.

I have the made in Taiwan Bead Buster (the yellow one) and it’s okay. I’ve stripped out the threads on the top screw a few times and had to replace. Also broke the threaded section and had to weld a nut on top instead.

By far the best one I have ever personally used was an R&R bead breaker from Australia. A friend had one, they work and don’t take a ton of manual labor

Someone on the YouTubes has a homemade version that I am going to copy once I get sick of rr welding my bead buster together

The one I used did 16 before I got it to borrow. I did 5 and then our other friend did a full set of 4. We all used a impact on it. As far as I know it's still going.

For cheaper than the price of those manual ones you can get a hydraulic one with a foot operated air over hydro pump... I have the manual one and haven't touched it once since I got the ari/hydro one for breaking down beads on tractor and equipment tires.

Just a super quick search on e-bay netted this as one of the results. 10000LBS Heavy Duty Tractor Truck Hydraulic Bead Breaker Tire Changer +Foot Pump | eBay

Look around on there and you might find something even cheaper.

I've got a pair of Aus TyrePliers. They work great on DD stuff, but I've never used them on anything over 37s.

have you tried them on old tires that have been on awhile? I could see them being ok for something that was recently mounted.

I’d get a set of those if they could get old crusty beads apart

I use a Slide Hammer, Slammer Hammer, Bead buster. Has lots of names. Been around forever. Never fail. Only thing I haven't been able to take off with it was ATV tires that have those bead lips on the rim. I use it on everything from 15 inch car tires to 38 inch tractor tires.

Yes it takes some muscle so maybe not for everyone.

They do crusty stuff, it just takes more bites. Newer tires take a bite, then flip 180* for a second. I've had some old ones that I had to work around the rim every couple inches tearing it loose from rust.

Oh, I forgot they've got big ones too.

Part of my thought on the screw thread beadbuster style is small enough to leave in the trailer and can use with an impact that I carry in trailer also.

By the second tire (37s) I got the hang of it, easy peasy

Slammer hammer.
I use this but unless it’s easy to break, fawk this idea as it just beats the user up instead

I use a hi-lift jack under something heavy like a vehicle

But when my mini excavator is around, I just use the bucket on it :flipoff2:

make one its super simple and will cost dimes.

mine is made just from square tubes /nuts bolts and random square/flat bar

I best it works wonders on aluminum alloy wheels too without scratching or gouging the crap out of the finish :flipoff2:

well I bought the cheapo Speedway version of these that is about 1/4 the price.
Wide Foot Tire Bead Breaker, Removal Tool for 15 Inch Wheels

They worked, but I think the foot is too wide and is difficult to get under the rim to get the process going. Once you get it started it works, but takes some grunt. I could not get it to work on a BFG all-terrain because of that bead protector ring molded into the tire.

The speedway version is preset to only do 15" wheels, but I think I will also modify mine to have an adjustable outer so I can do 16's as well. Maybe I will cut down and narrow the foot to make it easier to start

I still think the R&R is the best one i've ever used.
