All I want is a re-manufactured M5OD R2 trans to swap out with the one I have. AAMCO can do a swap, but can't rebuild it. spperformace will rebuild it for $700 but I have to remove it and ship it to them. Any alternatives?

Been a few years but I had to send one in as well. I found one on CL by using a search engine like search tempest. Had to drive 4 hours to pick it up.

It was probably ok but had it rebuilt anyway before install. Builder was local so I didn't have to pay any shipping. It was like $550 for the rebuild.

Sold my used one for the same bought I bought the builder for. It washed but lots of running around.

Location?

3.0 or 4.0?

I'm assuming 4x4

4.9 I6 or 5.0 V8 the R2 is behind small blocks. It is the five speed in between the R1 in rangers and explorers and the ZF5.

Rock Auto lists complete transmissions for about $820 plus a $400 core charge. The re builder is listed as Zumbrota and they call for availability.

Ah THAT m5od :homer: Last year there was a cherry 78k mile 2wd unit at Eichelbergers U Pullit

I'm on the East coast, mid-atlantic area. The transmission is in a 97 F-150 4WD. The 6cylinder units had a different input shaft IIRC, so the one on FB won't work.

I am half tempted to pull cut a hole in the floor of the truck and replace the shift forks myself. :mr-t::homer:

You're being like a chick not telling us where you want to go for dinner, year model 2wd 4wd v6 v8, zip code, come on man:flipoff2:

Buy a good used, buy a core and have built, or a lot of those yards send in a bunch of trannys and get them rebuilt and sell reman units

Is there not a removable trans tunnel cover on the 97 models?

I have one sitting in my garage, I'm located in CNY and i can ship commercial or common carrier. Let me know if your interested.

I spend most of my time in MD/VA/D.C.

Nope

Shift forks really aren’t that hard to replace. If that’s the only issue you are having I’d really consider just dropping the trans and getting after it. Theres no reason you can’t get it done in a weekend.

If I have to drop it that will be my first route.

What are the specs and how much? I might have to go this route.

Its out of an 89 i think f150. Was behind a 302. 4x4. I think i paid 200 for it so thats what you could have it for.

On the run but wanted to check in. That's quite reasonable and I thank you. I won't have time to look at anything for a few days but am filing this away.

Hold up, you're talking about a mexican body style 97 F150 with a 4.6 mod motor, thats got a 4.6/5.4 specific bolt pattern I believe. A trans from anything older than 96 won't work. You're better off replacing shift forks than trying to source a super specific trans like that

Well shit there's a 4wd ZF with the mod motor pattern on marketplace I can dig up the link if you want.

Or is it an Early mod motor with the smallblock bell pattern

edit:homer: those were the early car v8s and the 4.2 V6

ZF5

Yup, mod motor pattern. I really don't want to drop the trans and transfer case at my house if I don't have to. I'm not sure if the local dealer even works on transmissions other than to swap them out or to put in a clutch.

I'd try car-part if you haven't yet, and beyond that I feel like you're either paying big money for a rebuilt, dropping it yourself, or find a good ol boy that's more than a parts changer.
