KoH 2021 Chit Chat

I just checked out the qualifying results for 4400. Seeing two golf carts in the top 20 put a smile on my face. :smokin:

they literally let UTV's run in the UTV class, the street stock class and the unlimited class.

1 rig, 3 races  why is there a UTV race still? :flipoff2:

1) if it was about safety at speed, they wouldn't let them in 4400

2) if it was about registrations and spirit of street stock, they wouldn't let them in 4600

3) they are literally the identity politics everybody gets a trophy of offroad racing :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Are they using the yellow brick trackers this year? I can't seem to find the races in the app.

Anything is allowed to run in 4400 since it is an unlimited class as long as it meets the safety requirements. In fact the winners of the lower classes get an automatic entry into the 4400 race each year, although I don't think a 4600 car has ever attempted the main race.

The UTV class is essentially an unlimited class, the only restriction being that the engine cannot displace more than 1.0L and must be powersports-based, not automotive (you can't run a Ford 3 cylinder 1.0L Ecoboost for example). Everything else is free game.

The Roxor as you well know, but insist on trolling, is a UTV in name only for regulatory reasons in the United States, and uses a 2.5L engine and automotive drivetrain. Therefore it doesn't qualify for the UTV class. It is sold and used as a road-going vehicle in India under the name "Thar," and foreign market vehicles are legal. Of course none of that really matters, because whatever Dave Cole says goes, and he said Roxors are legal in the stock class (no other "UTV" is) :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

So; that means there's more than one course???

maybe?

it's also a different course every year

depends on who you ask :rasta:

Yes, the EMC course is only 2 laps and ~150mi total each year (one mostly desert, one mostly rock trails) and the 4400 course is 3 laps and ~200+mi each year (one desert, and two in the rocks). There are also bypasses for the 4600 class on the EMC course for some of the hardest rock trails. I am not sure what the deal is with the UTV course since I've never really followed that class.

Jesse Haines isn't the racing the Roxor this year, so no "UTV's" in the Stock Class.

edit: My post above ^ has been identified as "Fake News" by '84 Bronco II since the #4688 is a Roxor. Thanks for pointing that out.

If I remember correctly, I think Cody Addington raced his 4600 Stock Class Toyota in the 4400 Class one year back in the day. But I don't recall if he won the 4600 Class and then entered the 4400 class or just entered it in 4400. I do know they went out without GPS or Radios/Comms.

It was the year Dave said “Everybody here can enter for Friday”. Cody swapped his big tires (42” Iroks maybe?) back on for qualifying in Chocolate Thunder and the 4400 race. All the EMC is 37” DOT tire max.

Where would someone find the course info for how many laps each race has, etc? There is next to no info on the ultra 4 website, let alone a freaking map. Ive got the onX maps, but again, you cant toggle layers on or off for the separate races.

Were out here looking for places to watch the race. And the first 75 miles are out in the middle of nowhere. So im assuming its best to chill in hammertown until they make it back to the rocks?

There is another Roxor this year, #4668 being raced by Max Anthony

Look at the link in post #367 just a few posts before yours.

I wish the live race map had a satellite view like last year :frown: It really helps for understanding exactly where people are.

Does your live map have anything on it? All I see is the course with no racers

Click on "Menu" in the upper left hand corner, then click on the "4900" drop down , then click "show all" or whichever racers you are interested in following.

The map las year was way better and easier to use :homer:

Ah, didn't realize I had to turn them on. Thanks! I do miss the satellites. I'm probably going to be comparing that map to the course overlay I have in onx maps.

Loren Healy was doing 75mph  these golfcarts shift pretty well

Has the premium feed gotten any better? Are you able to choose cameras? From what I saw yesterday in the 4400 qualifying it wasn't worth the extra cash. Is it any better for the actual race?

Of course none of that really matters, because whatever Dave Cole says goes, and he said ... :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

which is why the classes are just identity politics :rasta:

we all knew "no classes" was never going to hold and I really like the way it has turned out, but i'm not here for fairness or consistency from the makers of doom
