I know a guy who lost 2 fingers past the first knuckle to a table saw in shop class. im not even sure if the school paid his medical bills on that...

Back when I started with the State a pinkie was worth $2500! Its gone up a bit...

In High School shop class we had a girl run her palm through the joiner. Pushed the board over the blades with no push stick and all the weight on the heel of the board. See sawed the board and fed her self into the machine. The sound changed suddenly and we saw a blood trail as she ran to the nurse. IIRC she did not return to class. We had all been trained to run the thing and respect it. She made several mistakes to get hurt.

It was a school on a Military base so I'd bet she got nothing but free health care for her injury
