Katana Kart

Alba wheels showed up yesterday.

Need to lay parts out to figure out what I really want to do with the rear.

Brought a Raptor knuckle home to measure. I drilled them out for rod ends when I was building the first kart. Gotta dig out my bins of joints to see if I already have a few 1/2" heims and spacers, or if I need to order a few.

Spacers are on the way to drill the wheels to the 4/156 pattern.

Have to remember to call the spacer manufacturer to see if they shipped them out at all. That and look through the parts counter brand list to find some stuff for this build.

Called thrice and left two messages. Hoping they're just on vaca or something. Order the wheel adapters from Custom Wheel Adapters. Don't think I've ever waited a week for a package to be taken to carrier.

Very little, yet.

Got the engine on some wheels. Exhaust is off (and might as well start modding it for the turbo).

Stripping chrome off some lug nuts (to be tube adapters) at a snail's pace. Probably need to get some fresh acid.

No pics. I pulled out the wheel spacers that I plan to use as jig to drill the 4x156 pattern in the front wheels. Spacers are 7.5" diameter and my lathe has a 7" swing.

Maybe I missed it. What kind of kart is this going to be? Sand drag? Hill killer?

I love it. :smokin:

Whatever type of terrain we feel like taking it on, I'd say. Gonna see about gnawing a chamfer on the wheel spacers this week so that we can drill the 4x156 pattern in the front wheels.

MT chuck in the drill press and a grinder with a flap disc. Got a wheel spacer chamfered enough to sit flat again the WMS. Should be able to drill both wheels this week. Gonna have the boys mount the tires.

Checked all my drill bits for something that would be a snug fit in the spacer stud holes and make a center punch. None worked, so I scrounged for scrap steel rod that I can whittle. Still having to locate and organize a lot, but I found the chunk of CV axle shaft I had. I can probably finish it up tomorrow so that we can center punch for drilling.

Somewhere, I have a box of timing belt stuff that I had intended to use on this instead of chain drive. I need to see what I can find in the way of 2" wide or so belts and pulleys.

Success. I'll see about having the boys try punching the rest of them tomorrow so they can see how to do it.
