I'm finally getting close to having my JK running.

It's been almost two years since I put an inspection hole in the block driving it home just after buying it.

One thing I forgot was to drain the gas tank. It will take me a day or so to get it moved where I can get under it to check the tank. Anybody know if it has a drain plug?

Thanks, at least when I get enough stuff moved to get under the back I won't be looking for something that isn't there.

Maybe a hose down the fill pipe to syphon with?

The fill pipe is pretty long. It goes from the driver side to the passenger side where the tank is. When I yanked the tank out of my JKU, that pipe wasn't that big of a diameter. So I know a garden hose is too big to shimmy down to the tank. Maybe something like 3/8" or 1/2" fuel line should make it.

I also don't know what there may be inside the pipe other than the flapper up by the cap. It does "look" like it's straight through.

Thanks for the heads up.

The tank is almost full so I thought I'd check to see if anybody had some ideas before I fuck something up.

All the work we've done so far is engine related.

Ya, my tank was about half full when I dropped it. Sucker was heavy. Shitty part is that you have to lower it a little bit at first to give you access to break loose the wires and lines...........then you can take it all the way down.

Mine had also sat for a couple years before I removed it. Fuel ran great in the lawn mower.:flipoff2:I just jumped the wires for the fuel pump directly to a battery and let the gas shoot out the fuel line. I wasn't reusing the tank or the pump so I wasn't concerned about crud.

^ this, disconnect a fuel line somewhere by frame rail behind motor and pump it out with the pump. Or disconnect the fill tube where it goes on tank and stick a hose and pump in there.

It is a long journey and not straight from the cap to tank. My inspection cam just barely made it to the tank going thru the cap and down the tube. There's 3 different "turns" in there and a very flexible fuel hose may not be that easy to get down it.

Thanks guys, I will be getting my Milwaukee inspection camera back from my buddy tomorrow. I'll push it in in a few different places and look things over before I start pulling shit out to get to it.

I plan to run the old fuel in my Suburban 5-6 gallons at a time. That is mixed with an otherwise full tank.

Drop it with a jack. Easy peasy. When it’s out, use one of these to quickly transfer to a can:

It's easy peasy to say drop it with a jack. Doing it easy is not as easy.

I've done it on a JKU and a gladiator by myself... not easy. Doable, yes but a pain in the ass.

Work smarter, not harder guys... just disconnect a fuel line and pump them out

NM, he’s just trying to get nasty fuel out.

That being said, can’t be any worse than the 80g beast under my Motorhome, and that was cake with a jack. Might be fuel pump time anyway. :flipoff2:

Also while you got it out to make future droppings easier if you have some scrap 1/8 inch bar laying around bend up a tank strap. I did that and it makes it a lot easier to remove since you can drop the skid without worrying about balancing it and the tank and lining up holes and bolts and whatnot.
