What's new

Junkyard ifs/ irs donors

Cause thats the sport we are in, buying OEM finished vehicles with no modification to race and wheel?

That's not how you build a race car? Damn, I fucked up.......

The new Texas Outlaw Series @ Oak Hill Raceway in Decatur...:flipoff2:

I'm going to run Pro N/A next year.
Glad you found another venue to race and are keeping it going :smokin:

For this thread 2nd gen sequoia's have a rear 10in diff that Auburn released a selectable locker for not long ago. There were some rumblings about 4.88 or 5.29 gears for them too on ih8mud but don't know if they were ever released. Having caressed one its a big ol' setup.

That is a huge upgrade considering the stock Sami gears are 6.9".

Was at the junkyard and noticed a ~06 F150. With no engine. Maybe this is tech? :flipoff2:

There was also 2 or 3 irs explode or expeditions there. I don't think the 8.8 IRS diff will be hard to source.

A cheap option might be the 3rd gen mitsu montero - I think the front is 8" and rear 9.5" with an air locker option. Not 100% sure about available ratios and lockers, but the CVs are supposed to be very stout.
And on the rear they have a 4 bolt unit bearing which is easy to build into an upright and you can fit a front disc for big vented brakes that still fit under a 16” wheel

Lightweight? Check.
IFS and IRS? Check.
Aftermarket gear support? Why? 5.31s aren't good enough for you?
Check out this bad motherfucker right here. And, they flex like a cadaver stored in ice. View attachment MightyMite2.webp

I know that length matters, but are there any stock IFS/IRS that would hold up the wheel travel and power of something like this? I know that drivetrain/power matters here. I guess I am asking: Is there a stock CV shaft worth building around? Thinking something like yota or chevy IFS shafts have good aftermarket support.
