Instead I went off to amazon, and just ordered this (paperback):

D DAY Through German Eyes - The Hidden Story of June 6th 1944​

3/4 of the way through this book.

It's a collection of about 20 interviews with german soldiers a few years after the war ended (maybe around 1955).

Worth reading. Those guys were terrified too ("unfit" soldiers assigned to stationary locations, youger guys and older guys).

They were fed propaganda and believed they were defending a united Europe against invaders and knew nothing of the terrible things the Nazis were doing (according to the interviews).

It’s interesting to see the different perspectives within the German army. You can really see the arrogance of the officers and iirc wasn’t there even a member of the SS interviewed?
