Got a msg from my sis asking me to check out her Patriot.

All I got was "shaking" and "temp gauge going hot"

Its been a pretty reliable car for her up till now and I've done the oil and plug changes on it. Not familiar with the common issues with these.

I believe it has the 2.4 with about 90k miles.

Any guesses?

In all seriousness, I like the head gasket idea too... or maybe vapor lock? Seems like the wrong time of year to be accidentally boiling gasoline tho.

Yup. Gal in town has one. Has had like 3 head gaskets go.

She would chuckle cuz she is Lead Nurse at UPMC and in charge of Rona cases.

Make sure it's not low on oil. If I remember correctly, those use oil pressure to actuate the valves and it can cause all sorts of issues that seem serious when it's just down a quart.

You might be right. It was low. She added a quart and said it seemed fine.

I will check and see why it's losing oil in the first place.

how long is the oil change interval?

a quart over 5K miles isn't anything abnormal, tell her to check the fucking thing more often.
