Is my tiller engine eating itself?

This is a weed eater. Even google says so before you come back with your hillbilly "string trimmer" nonsense :flipoff2:

Weed whacker here

Finally got into this today.

Valve cover vent is clear and functional as best I can tell.

Throttle cable bracket broke so throttle stop was not functioning. Thinking that allowed it to go past WOT where something went wonky and put fuel in the oil. Found a new chicom carb on Amazon with what looks like a beefed up throttle cable bracket for $12 so ordered that and I’ll go from there.

This place is pretty cool for replacement parts. Honda Power Equipment OEM Parts, CyclePartsNation

Weighed lots of options replacing the tiller and decided to just tear into this motor and see what's up.

Got it all torn down in maybe 30 minutes. Small engine mechanics is much more quick, productive, and fun than cars or diesels.

Piston and cylinder are scarred bad. Ordered a block and piston kit on ebay for $44, supposed to be here within a week. Standby for more fun and updates...

Cute little pain in the ass.

Got it all put together today in about 3 hours. New lower crankcase had some funkiness so reused the old one. Exhaust studs didn’t want to come out of the old block so the block got the deathwheel. Redeeming destruction.

Letting the rtv dry and will try to fire it later this week. I’m fucking wiped.

Dang, that thing is f'd... I've got the same engine on a 1" honda trash pump. It's got over 600 hours on it from all the flooding I deal with, and still runs like a champ. I was changing the oil every 25 hours when I was using it, since it only takes a couple minutes and oz. to change. I guess I'll make a note to keep gas out of my oil...

I’ve always called those things weed whackers and only ever seen 2 stroke ones
