Is it a waste of time to convert smooth body shocks to coilovers?

I have a nice set of 2.0x14 resi smooth body fox shocks, and I need some 14" coilovers.

I haven't messed with shocks much, but I think I just need a thread led body and c/o hardware? Maybe a new lower eye?

Waste of time?

Is the shaft size different for the coilovers vs the smooth bodies? I seem to remember coilovers having more girth for the shaft.

If they are the same Fox 2.0s I have ran on a few trucks , they are barely worth using as shocks, let alone converting to coil overs.

Check the dimensions real good a see if you think threaded bodies will actually swap on. I don’t know if Fox spec’d the shocks out to be weird proprietary nightmares on their own or if the procurer spec’d then out to be proprietary nightmares. They made some of the utv shocks incompatible with their regular universal product line.

Thats a good point.

Don't even get me started on their sxs shocks

My fox's on my Talon don't even have a Schrader valve, more like a rubber hole like on a basket ball. :homer:

you can do it, just not sure its cost effective. you will need to switch to a 7/8" shaft, different top cap to accommodate the larger hose size, larger hose and different end cap for the reservoir.

golf cart stuff is power sports dept aka snowmobile people, which is different than the offroad dept.

Even if the shocks were free, if you have to buy all that it doesn’t sound worth it. The PowerSports people need kicked in the dick! The weird fox shocks on a wildcat have the rubber fill hole but you have to pull the eyelet bushings to get to it. They’re technically rebuildable but you can’t get kits for them, and the shaft seal you can’t get anywhere except Arcticat, if you can get them from arcticat. Took 4 months to get a pair of seal kits and now I can’t get them at all.

edit: Fox shocks, even my fucking bicycle has Schraeder valves and are rebuildable with basic hand tools on a kitchen counter. Their raptor shocks and PowerSports stuff are a joke.

what i have been told is that OEM required more "safety and security" to keep the public from doing stupid.

gayzers are dumb and so i live valve

Tamper resistant fill was always something i wanted. The number of idiots that will check reservoir pressure with a tire gauge is unbelievably high. Then they will run the shock with no pressure cavitate them, and turn them into a foamy mess and warrantee it. It is much better to keep the general public out of their shocks.

Where’s the mad react when I need it. If that’s what they needed to do they could have at least made the tamper proof rubber but hole removable and replaceable with a thread in schraeder valve. I looked into converting some shocks but it required machine work. Which I found to be the cherry on top making the best option being selling them, talking mad shit and replacing them with the real deal.
