Iron Bull trailer comments?

Nice tailgate :lmao:

Again.....

My buddy has a 14k iron bull he got for cheap because a tree fell on it, he's been moving 20k+ lbs loads of dirt around his property with no issues.

He saved about 70% off a new one, so ya, it is nice. dump trailers get fucked up and bent anyway, may as well start off with a bent one.

Yeah so they can’t possibly be profitable loads or expected to haul gravel that would be worth the time or effort and it is very hard on the trailer . So I wouldn’t waste my time trying unless it’s exactly what you mentioned , personal use . When I can have 17 yards hauled by a dump truck for a small fee on top of fuel costs with something much more suited for the job it just doesn’t make sense. And besides that
, sometimes 17 yards doesn’t go very far 3-4 yards is kind of a joke when the nearest quarry is a 30-40 minute drive one way you have an entire day wrapped up in what a dump will do in one trip . After a couple times doing it we never did it again . When you live in a rural community and 3-4 of your friends/acquaintances haul rock for a living it would be pretty silly if you know how little you make per load on a full 15-17 yard run .

Exactly.

Thats if you don't end up greedy after spending 3 hours hauling basically nothing. I'm less than a mile from a rock yard and still wouldn't do more than a few loads. Truck and pup can haul almost 30 yards around here though..... well if the scales are closed

I was in your town yesterday had to get an inspection!

you should have messaged me or something. I was in and out most of the day..

Those with dump trailers, is the wireless remote worth the $? I have seen the HF winch controller hack used on some but mine doesn't have the open style Ford solenoid controlling the pump. it's a molded plug now. Iron Bull wants $260 for it. Found the same thing on Ebay for $149 shipped. The factory cord is only about 10-12' long. It won't even reach to the rear of the trailer if I want to watch it dump.

I ordered a solar battery tender for it today. I left it plugged in all night so it should be fully charged now.

I've had terrible luck with cheap winch remotes. 2 HF and 1 viper, none worked. The fucked up part is the last one came with my tilt and my buddy used it before me to move his shed. Said it worked great, now I've used it 3 times and nothing :homer: which sucks because it would really be handy for winching dead junk up the trailer.

My expense warn one works perfect, go figure.

Personally I don't see a huge need for a wireless remote on a dump. It might be handy for trying to spread rock out a bit while pulling forward. I'd probably just grab a cheap extension and keep it simple.

Here's the KTI remote my Texas Pride has on it. Works great and well worth it. You can stand at the back and watch it dump or raise the trailer as you pull forward. There is also a phone app that works. I have had the phone app stick when raising a couple times so I just use the remote.

There's a nice on/off switch so the remote can't be accidentally activated while going down the road.

The solar charger is 7amps. I've only charged the trailer 1 time since I bought it a year ago. The solar charger has kept the battery up with my infrequent use of the trailer.

I called the trailer dealer that I bought from and they sold me a cord extension they had. I can't say enough good things about the customer service for C & M Farms in Higginsville. They have answered all my texts no matter how late in the evening and on Saturday and Sunday. I stopped in today on a Sunday afternoon and picked up the cord when they were closed. They were there doing paperwork and stuck around to sell me the cord. :smokin:

I can rely messages to them any time too. I'm sitting right next to them lol. Kenny is a grade school buddy of mine.

ordered the solar battery charger than I linked a few days ago. Got it in and haven't had time to install it. Went to bid a job hauling some gravel in and rehabbing a driveway for a local place. Going to be a few loads though so I am going to use a winch wiring kit I bought a couple months ago to put an Anderson plug at the rear bumper for a winch in a receiver cradle. I'll put the winch side of the kit on my dump trailer so I don't run out of power doing multiple dumps per day.

Sometimes procrastination pays off!

What's your opinion on the Texas pride quality. Looking at a 14 k lb bumper pull with the 3 stage cylinder. Haven't been able to put my eyes on one yet as the closest dealer is about 4 hrs away.

A coworker has one that I borrowed last fall. it has the 3 stage trunnion mount ram on it and it's pretty damn strong. Seemed to pull pretty well, I had it pretty loaded down with dirt and it pushed the first stage up but struggled the second stage a bit 'til it starting sliding out. not knocking the trailer at all. It was lot of dirt. lol

I would buy one. I didn't crawl all over it looking at welds but it seemed well made.

Having used both hydraulic setups. Do you think the front mounted 3 stage cylinder is stronger than the other 2 styles. Looking around I really like the puma dump trailer but I don't think they have that style ram. And in my head it seems like it would be the better setup.

Yes, front mount is better than a K lift.

Just look at any tractor/commercial application.

Over all Texas Pride quality is as good as anyone else's. I've rented a couple other dump trailers over the years, one recent being a PJ. The welds on my Texas Pride trailer are better looking but still lacking what I'd like to see. The PJ was a "Low Pro" model. The ass end would drag before the bed was tilted all the way up. Let the tires sink even a little in soft ground and that trailer was worthless. I would never buy a "Low Pro" dump trailer no matter the brand.

As far as types of lifts the end dump or telescopic cylinder is the strongest of the three common types. After owning this 16' end dump I wouldn't be interested in any other type lift. I can load it up and stall the lift but that's with way more that its rated capacity and intentionally putting too much on the front of the trailer. It will still lift the first stage but will stall at the second stage.

I regularly do load the front of the trailer way heavy so I can take advantage of pin weight on my dually. It still dumps just fine. I ran 6 loads today and probably had 7 tons on. I was on soft sand and loaded 2/3's of that load at the front of the trailer to put more weight on my duals. No issues dumping.

If you haven't already look at the video I posted above about the types of lifts.

I went and pickup my dump trailer from Texas Pride in Madisonville, Texas. While I was taking delivery the owner, Jim, came out and talked with me for a bit and mentioned the axles were "Dexter compatible". I am guessing some Dexter parts may be interchangeable but I haven't had any issues so I don't know.

Do you know what they are doing differently? Just curious.

No, only that I've heard they build them.

Which may not be a big deal if they're made to use common consumables.

Thats why I just said be aware.

One cool thing is they sell some really high capacity trailers with 18k and 20k ratings and 17.5 singles.

If I was going to do it again I would go with the trunnion mount 3 stage lift.

I was hauling rock with mine yesterday and it had 11k plus on it. The loader operator was pretty good and kept it even and not all on the tongue. I made sure to check that it would lift it before I pulled away each time though.

Overall I am happy with my purchase. I added the dump trailer power wire from the truck back to the trailer so I didn't need to worry about short hauls running the battery down. I won't have to remember to plug the trailer in this way, hopefully. dump trailer wiring.

Thanks for the feed back. I think I'll go with the 3 stage cylinder.

Hows the paint seem to be holding up? Or is it powder coat?.

Second and last load yesterday and the damn lift didn't wanna go up. it was the lightest load as well. it went up about 2' then sounded like it was stalling or something. it only had about 4 ton in it and wasn't all on the tongue either.. of course that made for a nice spread job when I am dicking with the damn hoist. It would go down but seemed to be stalling going up but went down without issue.. Got it unloaded, dropped the bed, and turned around and decided to fuck with it. Of course it works just fine then.. :shaking:

Its paint, which is another reason I went with Texas Pride. No big sheets of powder coating coming off and its easy to touch up if needed. I've had this trailer about a year. Only paint coming off is in the bed where its wearing off. Looks like they actually primed the trailer before painting.

I looked closer at the welds yesterday when I was running some loads. Most of the welds are excellent. There are a few cold ones here and there.

Hmmm, sounds like overload or low battery?

My trailer must be charging off the truck. I ran 10 loads yesterday, about 70 tons. I kept waiting for the inevitable sound of a low battery from the hydraulic pump. It never sounded low. After the last load the battery indicator still showed 3 out of 4 bars? I did unplug from the truck when I checked the battery.

Its time for some pics..

Here's one of the loads. I loaded until the trailer was sinking in the sand.

It dumped these loads with no issues.

I am running the remote winch power cable with Anderson connection to the rear bumper. i hit the battery tender button and it showed 3/4 lights on charge.

i felt the motor and it wasnt hot or anything.

Didn't think about it like that. I was thinking powder coat would probably be a better option. And good to know about the welds.

I think yours is fucked up, I've used a lot of different dump trailers and it usually takes a lot for them not to dump.

Plus, like I said the ridiculous loads of wet clay in my buddies.

As far as powder coating, it's only good if they do a good job. PJ sucks balls, so I don't think of the powder coat as an advantage. My tilt PJ has shit peeling and rust. The powder coat places I've been to blast the entire surface they're coating. You know these trailer manufacturers don't have the profit margin to do that.
