Independent monster truck

A friend told me I should come say hi and answer a few questions? Thank you all for graciously accepting my T-maxxx monster truck. This is the second truck. First one I ran for 9 yrs and yes pretty much destroyed it down a hill in Gerlach Nevada on the way to a show. Brakes failed on trailer and we rolled everything. So new truck for 2022 got some design refinements . Some better some way worse. I had Achilles tendon surgery and while high on pain meds I thought it would be badass to make upper and lower suspension arms out of 6061 aluminum. All fabricated. Lower arms were a sandwich combo being 7/8" thick wall. But I've shredded all 4 lowers and 2 uppers in just 6 shows. So yeah bad idea. Today I finished the last lower arm now out of 1/4" T1 steel plate. Way better now.
Driveshafts are 1610 u joints with high angle yokes (now) at the planetary hub side. Got a show in Turlock CA thus Friday/sat so crunching to get some updates and repairs done. Thank you all for the love!

Glad you swung in David, would you care to share some pictures with us of some of custom machine work? You can post them straight to here. Those a-arms were sexy even if it didn’t work out. Coilovers are bad ass as well.

I’d love to see a time lapse of you getting it ready to haul down the road. Like how you get the tires and knuckles on or off at a show without a forklift

The suspension works way to well for that to be a good freestyle truck. It doesn't bounce all over the place over the small stuff like the SA trucks do and just absorbes all the obstacles. None the less, that truck is impressive in a whole different way.

I'd love to see more pictures of the chassis and suspension. :smokin:

I bet David is too busy doing cool stuff to come back. So I’m going to spam the board with a bunch of pictures off his Facebook which is public. This is how he hauls it. It has boom crane mounted on the front of the trailer for lifting all the stuff.

Is he making all his own parts like that drop box?
Yep, makes everything himself including the splined shafts. On that box when he got his shafts back from heat treat they had fractures in them so he had to start over.

Here’s one of his self centering steering rams and one of his big ass air shocks.

When we almost lost a legend and truly his biggest fan his girlfriend and another friend of theirs. Broken vertebraes broken rib's, long stay in the ICU after a life flight ride. Glad they lived and he’s back making killer stuff.

Man this is cool!

I'm really digging the color combination!

Does he produce any of this stuff to sell? Seems like a waste not to. Iean I'm sure it would be $$$ but 74weld seems to be doing fine selling baller ass billet shit.

Tell him to start producing a rock crawler tcase

He sells shocks and bumps with cans. If I ever get around to building my rear steer buggy I’m going to hit him up for rams.

I gotta tell my story of meeting David and his TMAXXX. Monster Jam world finals was happening in Las Vegas in 2017 and it just happened to fall on my birthday. My dad has a friend with little kids who had purchased VIP front row seat packages. I can’t remember why they couldn’t go but we got 5 vip packages for $1,000 bucks. I think those tickets were like $1200 bucks each.

So we take vacation and go do the whole thing for the whole week. Who is we? My parents myself my little sister and my BIL. One of the days they park like 100 monster trucks all over the stadium and let people walk around, look at them, meet drivers. My dad and I are the only ones interested in doing that part, just walking around and checking stuff out for 1/2 a day. As we’re walking around I see a giant a-arm with two shocks sticking through it and knew exactly what it was because my brothers had traxxas Tmaxx’s when we were kids. I dragged dad over to it and I’m walking circles around it pointing stuff out to dad and talking about all the one off parts. David is there so he comes over to talk to us. I introduced myself and my dad to him. I think I asked questions for about an hour. Dad didn’t get to say probably 3 words the whole time and I just yacked away like a 12 year old.

We finally walked away to let other people have a turn and later that that night it hit me. Told everyone “I bet that guy thinks I’m retarded”. It was my 37th birthday and my 57 year old dad was walking me around a monster truck show like a little kid. I fanned out so hard on it being a giant RC truck from my childhood. There’s no way I didn’t walk away without leaving D-T with the impression that I was at least autistic and my dad still having to care for me :lmao:

I don’t think I’m mentally challenged but I love monster trucks an awful lot for someone my age.
