1984 Chevy K30/CUCV I fubared the threads on the internal cooler/heater. I am wondering if it is more of a military thing or really needed? I am on steelsoldiers , they are a little more fanatical about "original" than I am. I repaired/got going by just looping the hoses.

Whatever cooler my 84 suburban (6.2L) had I deleted. Lines leaked bad, so i plugged it off at the block. Swapped in a SM465 and drove it for a couple years after that as a DD. Engine didn't care, but also didn't do any heavy stuff.
