What's new

I need a new camera/security system

I am running some Riolink cameras set to record 24x7 onto a separate drive on my computer. The program sucks and crashes after 3-4 days. Sometimes it doesnt even make it a full 24 hours before crashing. They seem identical to Faleemi, and i would have that program running and recording for months on end without issue.
The old software had that issue for me. I downloaded the latest one and it seems to be more stable. No issues on the mobile app since the beginning though.

the NVRs are cheap.

offload that shit to a box and never think about it again.

mine was fucking up where the cameras would un-focus every time it auto-power-cycled on sunday, so I set it up to not power cycle and it's been fine since

I have several of these around the property, some obvious, some not.

They all have motion sensor and recording capabilities. The motion sensor will send an alert to my phone. I have one on a tripod that I’ll move around. I can access them from a app on my phone from anywhere.

These work great.

Still running Reolink here. Had to replace a NVR this past week. Lightning took out the NIC on one of them :-/
Otherwise still going along.

I have a cheap 8 camera amcrest with 1TB hard drive. It holds 3 days worth of video and then just constantly copies over. Works fine for us as there is someone at the shop every day so if something is missing or looks out of place we can easily go back and look. It's fine for what it is and haven't had a problem in the 6 years I have had it. I will say it is a pain in the ass as it records in its own format so you have to use their viewer or convert every video. And the app and software are severely dated. But I'm to cheap to get something better.

At home I have a simply safe system that I got a year ago. No complaints other than our internet is trash so if you go live on the camera or answer the door bell through your phone, every streaming service in the house will slow way down until you get off.

Anyone running blue iris to manage their cam/cams? I bought it a while back and like it but I could only remote access in for about a week at a time. Then I would mess with the settings and get it back
I think it has to do with my router and static/dynamic IP addresses but I am not techie enough to figure what to do to stop it from changing
When it works, I found it was much more reliable than the standalone apps that come with the cams

By wireless do you mean a wi-fi network, or a cellular connection?

You need to setup a dynamic DNS client and a domain. The DNS client will automatically update the domain with your DHCP address from the ISP.

I figured it was something like that. Will dive deeper when I set up the new cam. Might post up a question or two in here :homer:

My reolink shit started crashing continuously, had to update the firmware and now it's working again

really annoying since I don't let it touch internet at all, so I had to update it via USB
and they only have one USB port

You can use the front panel buttons to navigate all the menus except for the 'file selection' menu to choose the file on the USB stick.
So you've got one port for a mouse and a usb stick.
I had to go out and buy a hub, nobody I knew even had a hub I could borrow for a minute hahaha
