What's new

How OCD are you?

I like all the vents in my truck to point a specific direction.
I want all knives in the knife drawer facing one direction
I want my socks to match.
I want all the labels in the fridge facing out.
I front face stuff at retail stores
I organize my toolbox instead of throwing everything into various drawers.
I organize movies in alphabetical order and exclude ‘the’ consistently.

I’m not OCD. I like things a particular way. I can sometimes be okay with things not being my way if I don’t always have control over it.

I lock my truck twice. I hit the button once when I get out and then again when I am about 10' away. If I don't, it will bother me to the point that I have to go look at the truck and make sure the lights flash when I hit the button. I never did that until I got this truck.

So if you lock it twice, you don’t worry about it? I don’t care if I lock it ten times, I like to sit in a restaurant where I can see it.

3 way light switches all have to be switched off, toggle down at each end. I will walk across the room to make sure.

Umm, how do you have both three way switches down with the lights off? My shop always has one up. I hate it. Of course, I like down one to be the one next to the door I come in.

I put a new old style in line fuel filter on yesterday and laughed at the hose clamps being reverse oriented from each other because if I posted a pic of that here somebody would pitch a hissy fit. :flipoff2:

I’m sorry, you installed it wrong.

I don't worry about it being locked, but since I am the only one in the building now, I park where I can lean forward a bit and look out through the service office and see it. When we were up and running, I had to park on the other side of the building, but I probably walked into the break room 9 or 10 times a day just to look at it for whatever reason. Not really obsessive, but it's something I do, knowing how stupid it is, but I do it anyway because it somehow makes me feel better.

I literally take the switch out of the electrical box and reinstall it upside down so the lights are off when both are down. I do this with all 3 or 4 way switches in every house I move into.

I'm extremely organized and tidy. I spend about as much time cleaning my shop as I do working on things in it. My clothes are all folded and placed in my closet in a particular order. Everything has a place and the toilet paper absolutely must be over the roll, not under the roll. I will change it at someone else's house.

It's a hard life to live. Fortunately I married someone who is completely and utterly opposite to me. She has cupboard and drawers in the closet that she can throw her crumpled clothes into without a care in the world. It makes my eyes twitch thinking about the mess behind those cupboard doors 😆

Anyone that puts TP or Paper towels on so it rolls from the bottom behind is retarded.

I like things in order.
Vehicles/house/garage I want to be able to find things in the middle of the night/in the case of power outage.

Keys, wallet and such always in the same place, flashlights all over in easy to get to spots. When something is missing I spend a good amount of time trying to find it/put it where it needs to go.

I have a little OCD and I have always considered it more a gift than anything. I realize however, that I don't get as much done at work as some of my coworkers because I am obsessed with quality and they just knock stuff out.

There was a great show about people with real OCD on A&E a while back called Obsessed, really eye opening and sometimes tough to watch.

I put firehouse for a hydraulic line sleeve on my excavator. It's white, all the others are black.

Well go figure today I found black stuff for cheaper. Debating if I spend an hour or two wrestling with the lines just to make it black.

Man door on the garage. When I'm done out there, lock it up, start walking away and... did I lock it?? Go back. Check. Its locked. Walk back into the house, do something... did I lock the garage??? Go back and check. Of course its locked. Any other door I'm good with.

Moderate to high OCD. Preface that I'm a retired Engineer for back ground.....

At my worse when I carried cash; I would organize paper currency in my wallet in order by denomination, year, with subsets in denomination of serial number, then bank issuing bank, in that order. I don't carry cash any more.

3 way light switches all have to be switched off, toggle down at each end. I will walk across the room to make sure.

Sometimes, I will go back and recheck something to make sure it's off or locked, multiple times. 99.9% of the time I'm right the first time.

Symmetry is critical. I am not relaxed, unless there is order for me.

I will straighten a crooked hanging picture frame, even if it's not in my house (when no one is looking).

All my extension cords are coiled so that the end plugs perfectly connect, without disrupting the diameter of the coil.

I'll stop now.......
Those are all super normal. Really, I'm the same way. Also an engineer by degree.

Moved to a new house and the 3 way switches are set so one is up one down when on/ off. Yeah..... Not a fucking chance:mad3:

. Spent Saturday afternoon the wiring switches so when they're all down there all off and flipping them so the logical switch comes first in a bank of 3 etc:homer:

This, plus I worry that I’m going to accidentally hit the unlock button while I’m inside. Never a problem before I had a key fob.

It makes it harder for a 3 year old to unroll the whole thing because they like spinning it. Same thing with cats.
Exactly the reason I started it over 40yrs ago, cats. Now it's habit.

I'm not OCD by definition.

My odd trait is I can't put anything away if the closet, cabinet or drawer isn't organized. I reorganize the food pantry monthly.

Last year I bought new glasses and wine goblets. One set of each left a lot of empty space in the cabinet and that bothered me so I purchased more. We don't need this much glassware but the cabinet looks better to me now that's its full.

I have actual ocd. When i am pulling parts at work I have to triple check it. Cant walk away until I do or I start freaking out. I also have a whole routine about checking the stove, oven, and faucets in my house are off. But I have to do it in a certain order and i blink 6 times at every one while looking at it. Legitimately cannot help it and i can't sleep if I dont do it or do it wrong when tired. Gets so bad I have to start over if i make a mistake or I freak out. Same thing with the doors in the house and on the refrigerator. Alot of what y'all have going on is neat freak or maybe a touch of autism. Not the same

I routinely take pictures of the shit like the locks. That way when I start the spiral, boom... look at the picture I just took... I don't have to go back.

My ADD trumps my OCD depending on what day it is.

My Grandpa had it bad. 3 taps of a cigarette, sip coffee, lick cup, half turn back onto the napkin, watching it was weird, he was a robot with everything he did.

Squirrel!
