How i almost just got scammed and jumped selling my tacoma...

I'm gonna try and keep the story short without skipping the good stuff

I'm selling a 2012 tacoma fairly cheap cus the HG is on its way out. Truck still runs and drives great with no CEL and passes smog with flying colors.

I put it on marketplace at 6pm today and get no less than 200 calls, texts, and messages. It turns to a bidding war and I agreed to go with one of the highest bids.

the truck is at my store in a fairly well lit parking lot. So I agreed to meet the ahem muslim guy at 11:30 tonight. He had an hour drive 1 way to get it.

Guy shows up with his buddy and they check out the truck. His buddy pops the hood while the guy I've been talking to distracts me. He buddy sprays oil all over the exhaust manifold while I'm talking to the guy of contact. I even remember hearing it hit the ground but thought I was imagining it.

We go on a short 5 min test drive. When we pull back in the buddy immediately says "whoa dude it's smoking bad!". Sure as shit I get out and it is smoking badly. We pop the hood and I see oil all over the firewall and exhaust manifold.. I immediately feel bad cus I thought shit just hit the fan. Then I started getting suspicious.

Guy acts like I just ruined his night and he drove all the way up. He low balls me to 2500 (asking price as 6500, he originally offered 9500). I tell him no thanks and I'm sorry to waste his time. He then jumps to 5k. I say no and I'd like to look at it more tomorrow. He then offers 7500. I then totally realized it was a full on scam attempt.

I inform them I'm no longer interested in selling the truck for anything less than the 9500 we agreed up. The 2 of them back me up into the door of the truck and they won't take no for an answer. I realized I only have my 4" blade on me if shit goes south.

They tell me they're Muslim and they ate men of god and they ate honest and blah blah blah. I told them I sorry they drove that far but it's not my fault. The dude then asks me for gas money to go back home.

They then tell me I'm a piece of shit and I'm going to hell and to go fuck myself. They hop in their car and drive around the corner and just sit.

I put my truck back in the warehouse and got the fuck out of dodge. They guy has called me 3x in the last 10 min still trying to make a deal.

Too many other things I'd rather spend my money on and never use....

I'm very much pro gun, just never had the desire to own one myself. They're fun as hell to shoot, and my buddies all have one. Ive just never really been into them

California is not America anymore. This is the perfect example of an honest guy unwillingly being turned into a sitting duck victim.

For that matter though if he hypothetically pulled the gun out he had better be willing to use it and then what? They disarm him? He kills one or both and gets sued? At least he’d be alive but in that state who knows how “justice” would prevail.

I always carry when selling cars. They could have grabbed the title and drove off or worse. I probably would’ve said something like “ I’m going to hell if I sell you a bad truck!”

I have rules about buying and selling shit now. I NEVER meet anyone outside the hours of daylight. I meet in a public place and I always bring someone with me. I don't carry any money on me except the cash to buy something if I am the buyer. And yes, I always have some sort of weapon on me, usually multiples. If they can't accommodate these rules, then no sale ad I move on. Whatever guitar I'm buying or vehicle I am selling is not worth losing my life or getting everything going sideways for.
