What's new

Hertz can suck it........

My local Toyota dealer, Toyota of Richardson, has an Enterprise rental kiosk in their service department. I've not used it, but the option is there.

Damn, that's cool. I didn't know. If I did, I wouldn't have a pre-paid rental through Avis for a trip in March, as a Rav4 would fit the bill nicely.

To be fair, the Luxury class rental is only about $830 for 2 weeks with the special, pre-pay, and USAA code, so its a little cheaper in the end, but still...

Pics of girl?
Married. Don't need evidence. or something I have to explain to wife.

She was pretty shocked one year in Topeka racing SCCA stuff when the "ladies" from the local gentlemans club arrived on grid looking for me. I had made quite the impression the previous year when we were in town, a few of my mates had stopped at the club the night before and talked them into visiting me on grid. They even dressed the part.

Not the first time I had some explaining to do.

Not sure if it is still there but Topeka Sportsbook I think it was called was one of the most entertaining strip bars I have been in. The other was in some podunk OKie town near Hallet race track. And I have been in some of the primo clubs in Palm Beach, south FL, southern CA, Las Vegas and Montreal. Just seem to get better value for my singles at some of the mid western spots.

The credit card number thing can be a headache when you reserve a long and complicated business trip on a card, then have the bank pull the card for likely being corrupted and send you a new one, which you wont get until sometime after you leave on the trip. Every rental car you reserved is now going to be a huge pita.

Hertz hasnt been good for me. Was on Avis for awhile, then started getting screwed. Switched to Budget and they have been good for many years now (fastbreak is worth it!). Which is stupid weird since Avis and Budget are the same company. The "off-brand" options like Sixt and similar arent available at most airports or are backed up with long lines of people who cant afford to rent a car arguing with the desk people. I prefer just going to the garage to check the list and go right to the car.

I get upgraded about every 2nd or 3rd rent with Budget. I know I dont like the camaro (fukkin hood), I dont like the mustang (damn doors make getting out in a parking lot a gymnastic event) and the challenger RT is a handful on a wet highway in traffic. Anymore, I tend to turn down the upgrade as I am there for work, my mind is on other things, and I just need a sedan that will get me there and back without fanfare or headache.

Hertz can burn to the ground, if you ask me. They've ripped me off and anyone else I've heard that used them.

My wife and I were headed out to California years ago. Ended up using Hertz for some discount or something. Reserved a Chevy sedan. Had all our financial expenditures laid out for the trip.

Got to Cali. Step off the flight and make our way to Hertz. Get to the desk and guy kinda acts and looks like Joe Pesci being a prick. Spent a good hour going around and around with him over having to pay more fees even though everything I got from the reservation online said it was good to go. He keeps telling me they don't have the car that I reserved. Keeps trying to sell my on different shit like H2's and whatnot. Finally give in to a Prius because I didn't want to pay more for anything. I remember the rental reservation being somewhere around $300.

Wrapping this up and boss lady comes out, pats him on the shoulder and right in front of us tells him, "Good job on the upsale".

Finally make our way out to the garage and there's three of the car that I had reserved in a row and a bunch more further out. I ran the ever living shit out of that Prius and bitched about Hertz all the way.

Same story from every other person I know of that has used them.

Edit: Meant to put this in there as well.
We got our rental, started through SF, got to our hotel and can't use my card. Why, you ask? Because Hertz swiped ALL but $3 of my money for holding. I had $1,800 or so on that card for the trip and Hertz left us stranded.

You're Jerry Seinfeld, aren't you?

There's a pretty famous scene from one of the episodes where he's arguing with the rental car counter idiots. Your experience is similar.
Ahhhh. I remember that one now.

I didn't argue with him at all. Probably just held an increasingly noticeable expression of disgust. Certainly won't ever use Hertz for anything again in my life.

Fun fact. I knew a lady that was asking about Hertz rental. I kept telling her not to. She did anyway got just as burned and them got snide with me afterwards. Fuck her as well.

Did you get pics?

I always use the cheapest at the airport. Dollar, Thrifty, Alamo, Sixt. Never has a problem with any of them.

Same here untill my last trip where I used the turro app. $30/day for a nice little Hyundai shitbox and they met me right as I walked out the door.

Rented through them at Phoenix for a wedding, rented a Explorer for a week, walked out to the garage, punched in the code and off we went.
Worth noting that unless the person renting the car is a licensed rental agency some cards (Chase) will NOT offer rental coverage like they would normally.

Prepay has worked for us for years. I realize it's corporate policy and there was nothing she could do. But the policy is stupid and she was an absolute bitch about it. Not being able to use a secondary card is crazy. Cards get lost, damaged and stolen all the time. Keep in mind he is a Hertz Gold member with 2 different cards on record. That should be good for something.........

That's a big part of the gripe. She wasn't slap happy. Her attitude was "fuck you - not my problem"
Some of those people enjoy fucking over the male patriarchy and all your white privaledge.

Enterprise 99% of the time here- most places I litterally walk out to lot and get a car takes like 45 seconds. Don't really care what I get as long as it is a car, normally get upgraded to something bigger/better. Hell seems like lately they just point to a section of the lot and say have your pick.

On the subject, sort of, if Avis says their Luxury Class rental is a "Chrysler 300 (or similar)," what can I reasonably expect to get? Are they currently using the 300s in the fleet, or is there a common alternative unit being issued these days?

Fly into Saint Louis Tuesday and arrive at the Hertz rental place. Boss/owner's secretary had booked the car with one of his corporate cards. (he has more than one) Car is PREPAID including gas. Boss gets up to the counter, provides his ID and the following happens.

Agent: you need to pay an additional $200 security payment.
Boss: it's prepaid
Agent: the security deposit isn't, you need to pay it
Boss: OK whatever - sticks his card in the machine
Agent: that's not the right card
Boss: what does it matter? It's my card
Agent: but it's not the card that the reservation was made with
Boss: so what, it's PREPAID
Agent: you must use the same card as the reservation
Boss: I don't have it. I have more than one card, I don't have that one with me
Agent: then you need to call this 1-800 number to change the reservation
Boss: IT'S PREPAID!!!!
Agent: not my problem - I can't rent you the car
Boss, then I will pay with cash
Agent: nope, it's a security deposit. It must be paid with a credit card
Boss: fine, cancel that reservation and do a new one with this card
Agent: We don't have any available cars
Boss: you have the car sitting out there with my name on it
Agent: I can't rent you that car - it's already reserved under a different reservation
Boss: YES - To ME!
Agent: You have to call the 1-800 number

We called LYFT, got a ride to Enterprise where the staff was super helpful and on our way we went.

Fuck Hertz. So fucking stupid.
Given all the fiascoes and fraudulent charges that's been showing up on the media when dealing with of Hertz...why would anyone even use their services? Or did the Boss cut a deal with Hertz for all employees that travel and now regretting it?

I've had good and bad with all of them, but Enterprise has been the worst by far for me. To the point, I avoid them at all costs. I do know Hertz has struggled significantly the last few years so it may have changed

Wife got screwed by Hertz in North Carolina. On return, one of the guys stated she damaged the car. Wife says she hardly drove the car and did not hit anything. So I call Hertz and happened to get a decent customer representative. She stated the description of damaged noted. Then I ask how many miles were driven (I believe it was less than 5 miles). Then I asked her if there was history of any damage....Yep...just so happened to have the exact same damage previously. Did not pay them a dime.

how the fuck is that worth it to someone?

Serious question, would not let someone drive my car for $30, plus clean it, plus meet someone.
Kinda what I thought. I could have had a Maserati for $80/day. Everything seems unreasonably cheap. You can get a jeep rubicon in pigeon forge for $60-70/day
