In 1620 they got lucky and found some land where the prior "owners" had died and nobody around had enough population or gave enough fucks to contest their claims (and some wanted them there as a hedge against other enemies). It was willful ignornance starting in 1630. IDK what the politics of the first few years in VA was.

The concept of having various checks on power has existed forever and the concept of natural rights go back at least as far as ancient Greece. The Constitution represents a huge step forward but is not the origin. It's probably the first democracy to have huge roadblocks to mob rule though (which we've undone many of over time)

She came to the US as an illegal from Venezuela a decade or two ago before the dictator bullshit. Went through one of the amnesty programs and got her citizenship. She has brought it up in almost every interview about her husband because for some reason people are supposed to give a shit about her story. She is very proud of how she broke the law.

Yes, they were born here. But the area was considered a British colony & was ruled by the King.
