What's new

Have you frozen your credit reports yet?

Have you contacted the 3 reporting credit bureaus to lock your report?

Our accountant had mailed our 2023 tax returns, yet 2 weeks later...nothing. With all of our financial info in our tax returns, my worst fear was that someone had stolen it and was going to wreak havoc. I immediately had our credit report frozen. I then contacted our accountant and had her email my returns via encrypted file. About a week later our returns show up with a 3 week old post mark. Fawking Post Office :mad3:

Anyway, I don't have the need to have my credit report accessible, so it remains frozen to this day for my peace of mind...

There's actually a 4th agency to freeze it with, I have it written down be a use I forget the name. You can also sort of lock your ss#.

I have everything locked as tight as I can get it and have had it that way for years now.

Wife has been bugging me about whether or not I've frozen mine. I know shit about fuckall when it comes to this stuff and care nothing about it. Considering I've been a stay-at-home dad for 10 years and that my credit score means nothing, perhaps I should freeze it all and call it good?

P.S. I don't ever want another loan or credit line.

Just did all mine cause I am that bored.

Was simple. Took 7 minutes tops.

Those fucks can still fuck up your accounts that you have already but can't open new accounts if you freeze it fyi

It isn't just your banks that sell your information
one of the last jobs I worked, I caught them selling my information

There was a 'HR' issue with me and a coworker that was looking like work was caught hurting this coworker (I was a witness) they had PI's lurking trying to catch some dirt (there was none)

Well I later got coworkers name, with my address on a bunch of junk mail showing up
I guarantee that isn't the only bit of info they let go

It's not about whether you use or care about your credit, it's to prevent someone else from fucking up all your shit by using it.

Freeze all credit reporting prevents any loans or credit applications. The ss# lock prevents your ss being using for fraudulent employment and possibly helps to protect against unemployment fraud. Absolutely put in place multi-factor authentication on bank accounts and ESPECIALLY any retirement accounts you have.

Make this a massive crime with massive fines to these companies, their boards, CEO, etc. and it'll get cleaned up overnight.

George Carlin said something similar to this years ago..

Want to stop drugs? Start hanging the bankers that launder their money in the town square. Drugs will stop.

I did this this morning but Trans Union wants $, so I declined their service. Plus the credit scores are a wee bit lower :homer: than my CU acct-

You should freeze all 3 credit agencies. If you only froze experian, the other 2 are still open.
Yeah, ok. The person at capital 1 credit wise said that I only had to contact one place :homer:. I just went with what she said.

You may have seen something for some upgraded security shit that they sell like LifeLock or something. They didn't try to charge me anything but I did see where I could pay for another security service.

Id go take another look while sober. :flipoff2:

Have our frozen for years. Just remember your password. No big deal for us, only use credit every five years or so.

I didn't even know this was a thing you could do.

Last year I had my bank card dinged 3 times in less than 2 months. What a fucking pain in the ass to redo everything, only to happen a couple weeks later and then again a couple more weeks later.

I didn't know it was a thing until about a month ago.

I'm pretty sure by law they cannot charge to freeze your credit anymore. If you're being charged, you're doing it wrong.
