Hey bud, your the guy asking questions about something youve never done and want to do. And im the guy who has actual experience doing the job.The drive flange absolutely doesn’t “have” to be turned down.
No, I do not have a write up on how I converted my front D60 to drums as I left my D60f disk- only I downgraded from 1 ton dually brake assemblies to 3/4 ton rotors with ½ ton calipers and ½ ton pads. I actually have a bunch of “intended” YouTube Videos I had taken step by step because at the time no one had any videos on YouTube about the process. I had issues with the brakes not lining up and the caliper brackets. The issues were not to bad but got me off track on the videos and since the front brake caliper brackets are still rigged, I didn’t want to upload a half ass video series. I should upload that stuff one day- I need to see what is already out there as I would only upload mine if the others were lacking detail.Do you have a write up on how you converted your front D60 to drums?
I would expect to pay a premium for a service that I am at mercy to pay for. At a starting rate of two days’ worth of the average mans’ pay, however, you better believe that I would expect at least that I would receive said items in operable condition- no eating your mistakes in that case. I don’t mind paying that, after all you pay to play… but there is not an ounce of humanity figured into that estimate. I don’t blame you- if you didn’t hit hard with an opening fee followed by a final unknown fee possibly you wouldn’t have the ability to brag about your IH. That just automatically makes you an expert, right?? Looks to me like you are bleeding money- I would have some pretty impressive toys myself if I was bleeding money. Let us just hope your house is the house that Jack built- not inherited, no nepotism, no silver spoon that 99% of us don’t have to kick start a business. If you are Jack I commend you, if not you are just another self-entitled butter bean.To be clear, you will be over 500.00 having your hubs and drums machined, period. My guys can do it, but they're 125 an hour, with a 4 hour minimum to take a system out of standard production. Any machine shop that can do it will be the same price and backed up by 6 months or more.
So, what's wrong with 1T late model drum in hat disk brakes adapted to your axle or heck, a complete GM AAM based 14B?
Right Gear and Axle makes adapters to put late model drum in hat disk brakes on your 14b. I've done it.
Late model 10.5 and 11.5AAM axles are as wide as your front 60 at 69" WMS to WMS.
They are far better than either drum system you're discussing here. It's why the manufacturer incurred the cost to switch to them. You can also find parts at any parts store in the country.
The 72 K5 here has an 85 K30 SRW Dana 60 and a 2004 AAM 11.5" "14B" in it, with drum in hat disk brakes. Oh, and it has a disk/disk prop valve, which unless an ABS system controls, you need in any two circuit brake system. Also has a Cummins, so heavier and bigger than your pig. Stops a fuck ton better than the 13.5" drummed 14B it replaced. Parking brake also holds and self adjusts.
Or if you want to go heavier, pretty sure my IH will be about 11,500 lbs on 41" tires.
Modern brake systems are a hell of a lot better than the expensive shit you're trying to do to end up with shitty, fading brakes over the road.
Also, drop the bull shit. You come in here asking for help from some of the smartest fabricators/builders in the world and give shit back? This place and it's precedents are known for advancing the auto tech world, not retarding it.
HOLY FUCK. Just read the entire first page.
FUCK THAT GUY
I am looking for a machinist and/or a somewhat rare part... what questions did I ask????????????? And generally, all this shit is monkey bolt on shit...Hey bud, your the guy asking questions about something youve never done and want to do. And im the guy who has actual experience doing the job.
Best of luck to you.
Grendel can definitely fuck off- regardless of what he has and who he knows. Picture going into a gas station for a 20 ounce Coke and everyone behind the counter gets pissed of because you won't buy the drink they want you to buy...Wow!! What the fuck dude? You come in here swinging your nuts and get offended when people who have built shit tons of vehicles offer ways to accomplish a better brake setup than you want to spend a small fortune on. Grendel has built more cool shit than you will ever do and you tell him to fuck off? Go to another website, you are obviously smarter than anyone on this site. 🖕🏿🖕
The irony would be if I only made this post to point out how many big talkers on here are unable to accomplish a relatively simple machining task- really just simple lathe work. Possibly it would just be easy to paint me as the bad guy PITA who you would not offer your services to rather than facing the reality of have nothing of original post value to contribute…Gee, I can't believe you don't have machinists jumping at the chance to have you as a customer.
May as well move this to GCC at this point
That is a good point, this probably should be moved into the "Wanted" forum. My bad. I guess I was thinking tech because I was asking for a tech service as opposed to buying used parts, but I agree. Some tech did make its way into the thread though as a biproduct of others drifting the topic. BTW, us AF would always say that you fourth rate ASVAB challenged Navy bums have not earned the privilage of words coming out of your mouth ;) JJ. BTW- you are not the dictator of my freadom of speach that I offered up my life to protect- it doesn't work that way... maybe on conglomorated Pirate...Sorry, perhaps I should make myself clear, as a moderator of this forum.
Cut the bull shit.
You claim military service, so I say this as a retired Navy CDR and former Army CWO.
Earn your stripes.
This is a tech forum, with many folks that can help you, but you have not earned the words coming out of your mouth.
Or do I move this chit chat?
It sounds like it should be in wanted, as in services wanted. Yet he posts in a tech forum.
It is kinda arguably border line tech, but when one has an agenda the nit picking shows face...To be fair he seemed decently on track to post tech.
Now, it may have been tech for doing something nobody in their right mind would want to do, but tech nonetheless.
You are not paying attention. Granted, I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to wade through all of the bullshit, but comments made by those who understand what is going on are more impressive...Hahaha this is fucking hilarious!
Who the hell gets rid of a full floater for a junk semi floater...
Yeah, it was tech for a while, in the middle of this, not so much in the beginning. To be fair he seemed decently on track to post tech.
Now, it may have been tech for doing something nobody in their right mind would want to do, but tech nonetheless.
Yeah, cause you're a diabetic stroking out without insulin and too much sugar... and the guy behind the counter's a fucking doctor.Grendel can definitely fuck off- regardless of what he has and who he knows. Picture going into a gas station for a 20 ounce Coke and everyone behind the counter gets pissed of because you won't buy the drink they want you to buy...
Noob, you're running 33" tires. Not sure what "big boy" anything you have. You're just a boy.You are not paying attention. Granted, I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to wade through all of the bullshit, but comments made by those who understand what is going on are more impressive...
And I will add- someone in their right mind wanted to do what I did, especially because several different aftermarket hub options came out over the years, sold out, and rarely pop up for sale. You calling Bunk out of his mind, also? Once upon a time people actually felt the smaller the wheel diameter the better the bead lock. Having meaty tires used to be in fashion, but now a days its all about huge rims and small meats for the noobs.
I think you are assuming that I only have one truck, and only own one set of off road tires. Most of the guys on here who readily offer non-requested, alternative solutions for me (that can EASILY be found by anyone not scared to use the search engine while leaving this hyperfocused post more to the point for future members who know how to use the search engine) tend to do the same- just like others are assuming that any parts that I have and or want will all only be used on "one" of my trucks.Yeah, it was tech for a while, in the middle of this, not so much in the beginning.
Funny thing, is it's tech from 20 years ago, so I guess he really wants to be period shitty correct...
Yeah, cause you're a diabetic stroking out without insulin and too much sugar... and the guy behind the counter's a fucking doctor.
Noob, you're running 33" tires. Not sure what "big boy" anything you have. You're just a boy.
The guys on 39's and 17 rims will run circles around you on any fucking terrain.
Just shut the fuck up already. Be the noob, sit down in a corner, listen and absorb. The adults are talking.
Some will argue that machinists will not come forward because I am a PITA to deal with. I would argue that if such machinists proudly and competently exist they would appreciate the notoriety of saying so within this post- even if they say "but I refuse to do perform those services for the OP."
They do. but they wont do shit as much as this guy runs his cock holster. 20 years ago, this would make sense. no, its just stupid, we learned and threw that garbage in the junk pile.dont military bases have hobby shops? or there has to be some machine shop of some sort to bribe someone with beer to do what you need.
