Gear Pattern check/metal shavings

This thing is a PITA. I got everything back together and I set carrier preload per the manual. I’m checking backlash and it measures .0035-.008 depending on where I check it. WTF.

I ran this diff for 450 miles this last week. Seems like a lot of metal for just a short period.

It doesn’t make any noise that I can hear. Pinion bearing temp around 152 degrees after about 40 miles of freeway. Every other area of the diff was cooler than that.

At this point I think I’m just going to have to run it as we are leaving for the rubicon next Sunday.

Didn't you originally start this cause of excessive metal on the magnets? Unless you cooked that housing you're not getting it all out with some brake clean on a bench. It's very possible some of that is residual.

Those temps don't scare me personally, I think you're good to go. And yeah if the housing already had material, you'll probably be finding some for a good while. I would expect the quantity of metal to diminish over time though of course, but I say send it for your trip
