No, but if you want a quick spooling turbo, you could put a " way too small" turbo on, with a large wastgate. You obviously loose efficiency up top, but its likely still going to be more power than na.
Yeah, you could and it would get you the bottom end.

I kinda wonder if the heat at the top end where it runs right off the edge of it's efficiency map would be not good for things. No engine enjoys force fed 300de air even if it only amounts to 4psi. :laughing:

Well for one, if you're running up at high rpm often, probably not a good set up.

My thought was to basically have a wastegate the size of the factory exhaust. Only problem is that it would probably just fall off completely out of booat once that thing opened :laughing:
 
You can't compare factory shit with quadruple variable ribbed for her pleasure vane housing blah blah blah to a simple aftermarket turbo install.

They do a tons of work to make it like that and the aftermarket install guy realistically can't replicate it.

Use it on the cold side in order to have an even better response time vs hot side control.


The problem of running too small of a turbo is that it'll act like a choke point at high RPM and make you loose power. A lot of it.
 
I get what you're saying, but don't you think turbos have came a long ways from the days of not doing anything till 3500 rpm?

I've rolled into the throttle at ~1500 rpm in the 2.7eb and it will pull pretty decent all the way to 5k or so. Of course I can directly compare to a SC, but I've never once experienced lag in that truck. If anything sometimes it down shifts and puts it above the power band.

What rpm does the race bronco spool?

BTW, this is an age old debate. I do think that turbos have came a long way, hence why they're getting so popular in drag racing.

Also, turbos are not permitted in top fuel cars, must be because they're better :flipoff2:
My race bronco doesn’t do anything till 3500 ish. VVT turbos make up the gap a little bit. Bronco pulls nice all the way from 3500 to the rev limiter at 6800 when the ECM dumps my boost via the BOV ☹️

In something that's starting with a 2L engine all that shit is a non starter. Just toss in a bigger engine.

That stuff only makes sense if you've got something super-optimized for what it's in and can't realistically go bigger.
 
For the engine sizes we're talking here a pair of AMR500s might work well. :laughing:

Nothing else fits under the hood of a little zuk without major butchery of lots of stuff. Every engine is physically larger than a G13 or G16.

Depends what you want to do. But a boosted I4, I lean on the side of Link g4X Monsoon or a Haltech Elite 1500.

No sir. Terminator X or ECU masters is the standard stuff in my circle anymore. Know some people who tried mega squirt but had nothing but problems out of it.

ECU Masters with good as well, they just aren't as mainstream as the 2 options above for JDM stuff. Meaning support is lacking for these specific applications, harder to find a good tuner etc

Megasquirt is for DYI guys that like to tinker. Not for racecars.

Terminator X is as basic as it gets. I don't understand wanting to run this on a racecar. And that's coming from someone who has a TermX on his personal car.


EmTron and Motec and some other fancy options are out there but the cost starts to go up significantly.
