Took the kid fishing yesterday. Got a nice trout and a set of ticks for all 3 of us. All 3 appear to be same type of tick. I got one on my thigh, about 2 inches below my sack (depending on ambient temperature), kid got one on his head, dog got one on his belly and found another one crawling on him.

My google-fu says dog tick. They were only in place for maybe an hour and came out easy, fully intact. No red rings on anyone yet. Lyme is not common in our area.

How do we deterr these things?

I hose down in Off Deep Woods. Shoes, socks, pants leg up to the knee, and sometimes arms and back.

Of all the years spent walking around my deer lease, I’ve found only one tick on me, and it was just crawling and not dug in.

If you're in CA Lymes isn't much of an issue and it's generally carried by deer ticks, not dog ticks. It's highly concentrated in the northeast and upper Midwest because it almost certainly originated from a lab leak and is carried by birds on flyways when deer ticks hitch a ride.

I keep our sector of the property mowed as short as I can. The man-eater still managed to get a tick on his belly. The part that sucks… he takes an expensive flea/tick med 😕

I live, work, and play in the woods. I use this on clothing, hottest deet i can get on skin.

Does that have any detectable scent?

I picked up a small can of that sawyer repellant. I figure I will just keep it handy in the truck . I had some deet spray for skeeters but it does not seem to repel very much. Does that shit expire?

'lab leak'
wasn't it an intentional release to track tick propagation rate?

Damn things are everywhere at my house. Wife had a deer tick on her last week, I had a dog one yesterday. Hate them, can barely enjoy outside. We have a ton of deer in the yard if we go out we always get a few.

I got teh limes like 15 years back. I think it's like 1 in 3 deer ticks have it now.

I doubt that. It would be pretty bad for that considering it's a bitch the diagnose. They pretty much rule everything else out first.

Up here they pretty much cut you a script for doxy if you say you got bit. Damn near everyone I know has a stock in the med kit.

I got bit and had the ring like a week later, go to doc and say a tick was here ive got teh limes. Looked just like the pics, doc even had one poster up in the office. Goes eh looks like a rash, but here's 2 doxy. Follow up in 2 weeks if it's not gone. 2 weeks later it's a huge ring. Oh yea, that's bad probably lyme. Let's get you on a full course. Probably fucked me up letting it go so long.

We have them pretty bad up here in central BC in the spring. Not much of a problem the rest of the year. I've never felt the need to put on any repellant. I spend lots of time in the woods and just check myself over really good when I go in. I probably pick off 10 or so every spring, always got em before they dug in. So far.

Permethrim isn't a spray on bug spray. It's a spray on your clothes and let dry spray. Lasts up to 6 weeks or 6 washings supposedly. It's a neurotoxin so it actually kills them when they crawl around on it.

Deet is more of a right now spray. Careful with the good stuff because it will melt some plastics... :grinpimp:

I picked up the Lyme in western Washington. Unrelated had a doc tell me
There is no risk of Lyme in Washington state let alone western Washington. I the. Told him I got Lyme here on the wet side. He then said well its here but not that common. I know a lot of people that have picked it up on the west side of the state. About less than half of those that get Lyme get and signs like the bullseye. I send my
Ticks out to get tested. Get a lot of interesting shit in the reports.

This is who we use. Its fast and affordable. Doctors dont guve a fuck anout you neing healthy. They want you on pills and in need of lots of appointments.

Also I have been reading on Bee Venom Therapy for Lyme disease as well as any Keto diet being very good for it.

Eat more garlic and get some guineas.

Also, when I was painting houses in rural areas with deep grass, I'd always find a major nest of seed ticks. Started keeping a half pint of the cheapest vodka nearby. A splash of that on ticks would take them right off.

Dog get them, bought her the tick killer stuff you put on their neck. She's had a few more but they die or don't bite. I've found 2 from her but that's it this year. No bug spray yet but long pants, boots, and dumping everything in the washer when I get home seems to have worked so far.

Not aware of Lyme not being common, my uncle has it and it screws him up bad. I know of 3 others with it and various side effects as well.

You definitely develop a feel for them. Its part experience and part body hair setting the tinglies off. Only bitch is once you get the first tick of the year theres a thousand phantom ticks to follow.

Fuckers are everywhere round here. I put tick tubes out this spring and I mow the yard weekly. Still find them on us and the dogs regularly. Daughter got lime last summer from a tick bite. It’s just routine now that we do tick checks whenever we come inside after being outdoors. Trying to find them on my male husky is the hardest though because his fur is so thick and fluffy. Sometimes I don’t find them until they are gorged on him.

Nature has changed course this year~ I haven't seen a tick here yet, just a bunch of annoying Deer flies-

Edit~ give your dawgs a weak solution of cigarette tea to ward off ticks 😉

hell i remember pulling out ticks all summer long when i was a kid in east Texas. i still get them pretty regular at my place west of dfw. but i have dogs and a creek circles my property. so prime country for them. i have a buddy that comes over and gets ate up with seed ticks, they stay off me.
