Did a Spyntec free spin kit on my Super Duty years ago. One of the selling points of this kit is it used common Dana 60 parts.Getting ready for a trip decided to take it to a local shop to have the wheel bearings packed. Was supposed to be done today. Mechanic calls me up "we got a problem, the wheel seals are wrong" . What the fuck you mean wrong ? Should be a Ford Dana 60 seal.
" Nope, Dana 60 takes a 2.5 ID seal these take 3.0 ID but both seals are the same OD. Only two seals like that in the state and they are in Denver."
Well fuck! What vehicle do they cross to?
" Nothing ,they don't cross to shit"

I bought a used Yukon free spin kit for my Dana 30 and same thing. Seals are a crank seal for a fucking Northstar motor! WTF?!

So if you have a free spin kit don't assume like I did that you'll just be able to get parts where ever ,when ever. The bearings are run of the mill Dana 60 but I'll be keeping a couple seals stashed from here on our.

Damn, I crossed the yukon stuff to old school 60 stuff years ago. I thought the only thing full custom is the spindle.

IIRC, the parts compatibility is why I went yukon instead of dynatrac/spyntec.

Don't remember having any issues.

Seals will be here tomorrow with any luck. I live in
BFE so options are limited. NAPA and an O'Reilly's. I'd rather shit in my hand and rub it in my hair then walk into the O'Reilly's. The NAPA recently sold and its going down hill fast. Tried to get a belt for my 4.0 with A/C. They kept trying to give me a belt for 2.5.
Living in the country is nice until it's not.

How many miles did you get on the conversion vs unit bearings?
And I know the conversion did not fail.

EDIT

Replaced the unit bearings around 70k in 2015 now has around 110k.
Did the swap more for milage. Years ago one of the off-road magazines did a mpg test. They did exhaust ,intake ,tuner some other stuff. The free spin kit for +2 mpg and was the best bang for the buck.

approximately 400 gal less over 60k mi.

What year did they start spinning the whole front end?

Maybe on a Dodge. If they made that claim on a Ford it’s because they were paid off.

Super Duty’s all came with locking hubs and didn’t spin the front end unless the hub was stuck, which was only like 25% of the time.

I’ve had so many Superdutys I almost can’t remember how many and I have never had one that didn’t have selectable hubs. I’ve done vacuum deletes for broken lines. Do some models have drive flanges?

The 24 I just got into has one drive flange and one selectable hub

Just pull up First Call, clicky click clack, order up that shut and when bam, thank you ma'am, hopefully it's the 1 semi hot chick that delivers it and not the grumpy hag that's been pissed off since 1987.

We haven’t had a reasonably attractive driver in probably 4 years!

Please tell us they put the hub on the passenger side

That's what I thought and why his post has me confused:confused:. I thought all SD's until the recent 24's had selectable hubs. I know they had some weird ass LD F250's that didn't, but they were on the F150 body style. The SD's now come with a 9.25" front axle with a single locking hub on the DS and drive flange on the PS.

At work we have the whole cr seals catalog/ reference on our computer. You measure the shaft, bore and thickness then determine the seal type, lip type and material and find the part number. They you can buy seals anywhere using the part number instead of searching by application.

And supposedly there is a bulletin to replace that slug and install selectable hub and vacuum lines. Not sure what that was supposed to correct though...

Am i reading this correctly?

You installed a free spin kit with selectable hubs, to increase fuel mileage, on a vehicle that comes factory with selectable hubs?
I think OP was talking about a dodge.

Edit-shit. Nevermind. OP is on drugs or dumb or something.
