I need to do a full brake rebuild. Looking at shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders, getting the drums turned and new parking brake cables. I know the shoes come in three sizes, 2 1/2", 3" and 3 1/2" and being a SRW HD truck I should have 3" shoes but wanted to make sure. I pulled a drum to take measurements and I found 2 1/2" shoes with the drum surface being about 3" wide.

Did the previous person just put in the wrong shoes or did I measure the drums incorrectly? This is a full float axle and NOT the semi float 10.25"

I suspect either shoes fit.

Dodge is like that... also 12" Bendix drums. All the drums will take 3", but most axles only got 2.5" shoes. Easy to upgrade - backing plates, hardware, and cables stay the same.

Id swear 2.5" is the semi-float axle, 3" is the SRW and 3.5" is the DRW. I have 3" shoes in all 3 of my trucks and theyre all SRW axles. u2slow is prob right, tho, id bet both the 2.5" and 3" fit just fine in the same drum.

My '87 10.25 dually has 3.5" shoes.
