How do all you inmates store your files? I'm talking about mill, bastard, doublecut, etc. Not divorce paperwork and tax stuff...

Every time I open this drawer, I think I should figure out a better way. And then I close the drawer and do something else.

I can't imagine that having the teeth rubbing against each other like that is good for them. It's one of those things where you probably don't realize how dull they are from that until you use a new file and find it cuts so much better.

Mine are mostly hanging up on the back of my workbench. Some are in tool rolls.

Very rare I use a file.

Sharpen most chains with a grinder.

Yup similar storage, I try a little harder to not let them touch, but more or less, that's it

P.S. I don't use a file very often.

that looks similar to mine, I only have a couple handles though, they pack in there a lot tighter with the handles off them

yeah I've got a couple nice ones and a lot of old ****ty ones
I just don't worry about it too much

I have an imperial **** ton of files that are currently stored in a similar fashion. I do my best to keep them from touching, but it's pretty much impossible.
I have plans to take a chunk of 1" or so thick hardwood and cut file width slots (the thickness of the files, not width) so they can sit in it on their edges and stick that in my dedicated file drawer.

Something like that that I just found in a quick goog search. Probably do some closer together to get more stored without handles.

Yeah, this is what I think I'll end up with some day, but a 3D printed version. But, that drawer will probably need about 3 times the space used right now.

At least I'm in good company, everybody else seems to store their files the same way I do.

I have a bunch of hand files for making sword hilts and other reenactment fittings. Probably over 70 not including needle files.

I use silverware trays for drawers to organize them by type. Square, triangle, round, mill, bastard, Swiss, rasp. Usually buy the trays at thrift stores for cheap. The trays get stacked on top of each other when not in play

Some sets I keep in coffee cans near work stations where they get used the most
