Hey all new to this site, same username as the old one with a P. Ive got an 04 f150 4.6L, just wondering if anyone knows if any other transfer cases will bolt up to the 4R70E? I would love to fit a manual shift t case from a super duty in, to get a stronger case with a fixed rear ouput, and use a double cardan front shaft. Rig is SASed with super duty 60/10.5". Thanks

I forget when the F150 sized stuff ditched the 31spline output on the transmission. If you have the 31-spline input on that transfer case you can use pretty much any transfer case out of a full size as far back as when they started doing married transfer cases. NVG 271 from behind a 4R100 (must be from behind a 4R100, the others have different spline counts) would be my pick for strength and ease of swap.

You need to verify that your have a 31 spline output on your trans before you do any of this. Should be easy enough to Google.

Ok thank you, good to know. need to do some junkyard research and more google fu

Bw4406 has the same splines and 6 bolt pattern as the earlier cases and the SD case. So any nv271 or bw4407 should bolt up fine.

I have a 271 in my SAS chevy. i picked it up at a junk yard here for $180. 31 spline input and the standard 6 bolt pattern. 34 spline rear output and 32 spline front output, flanges on both sides. it is a massive case though and brutally heavy.

So next question would be, anyone know how the spedo works on a 271? Maybe similar to the 4406 with a magnet thing in the t case output? Too many computer modules talkin to each other in these things.:mad3:

I'm pretty sure both of the trucks those cases come in will have the speedo off the rear diff.

Some of the 271s have a sensor provision. I'm pretty sure it's just a tone ring though. I don't think Ford has run a mechanical speedo in a full size truck/van since '91 or so.

I know for sure the rear diff sensor is ABS only, i ran around for years without that plugged in when i first swapped in the 10.5, and the spedo worked just fine without it.

Pics because I trust Austin more than Google.

The shifter provision on the 273 appears to be identical to the one on the 271 but with an extra boss cast around it to mount the electric stuff to. I think you could just mill a slot in a scrap of bar stock that's the right length, bolt it on and get something geometrically equivalent to a 271 shifter. If the case has the boss for the range switch it should be an easy drill and tap operation if you have the case out and apart.
