Save those wire spools, they make great extension cord reels

Leave some slack out the end and roll up the rest. You can even get fancy and counter-roll the two ends back up and plug itself for clean storage (forgot to take pics of that part)

There’s your friday PSA, have a great weekend yall 🤙🏻

What wire comes on those? I've only seen plastic or wood spools.

Have a device wife bought me some years ago that uses a crank to coil a 50 or so ft cord into a basket, found it when I was cleaning off the deck of the boat when pulling the engine.

Will post up a pic of the thing as soon as I find it.

I coil them up and hang them on the wall. Short piece of 550 cord with a loop on either end. Works on air lines and shop vac hoses too.
I do that for the ones I'm using regularly, but I have a couple cords I only haul out for working out in the yard. Coiling them up on spools and putting them on a shelf would be good for longer term storage.

I use the 33lb spools for cords, air hose, anything
I don't wind it tight like that though, big loops, you kids like your shit all twisted up

This. Generally bigger loops the better. Unless you spend big coin on cords, cold weather makes it near impossible to uncoil and not trip over constantly, or it ends up a big knot. My primary use cords in my barn are on hooks about head high and the loops almost touch the floor. When I need it, I grab 3 or 4 coils off the hook and it will reach what I need, no knotted nightmare.

I have the Homo Despot Velcro/carabiner loops in medium and large for my cords. They get loosely wrapped with the alternating overhand/underhand method to reduce twisting, and then hung on my shop shelving. I've had too many nice cords ruined by twisting that I'm now much gentler to them whenever possible.

Same with my air hoses.

Have and do use the old wire rolls on some stuff. Been pretty happy with just a peg on the wall for an airline that gets used all the time.

Here is the cord thing.

Holds 150 ft of 3 or 4 /12 or 10 gauge im guessing.

I use a stupid trick i saw on a facebook reel to roll them up in a Figure 8, then tie and hang them with the remainder loop. I just have them hanging on screws off my garage wall currently.

Very slight amount more effort to unroll than a normal forearm roll but it doesn't knot and fuck the cord up nearly as bad. I like it overall.

I like figure 8s when you have a few hundred feet, but for a regular use, hang on the wall, big loops is where it's at. Quick and easy cause you learn that throwing 4 loops down is enough to reach the end of the driveway, etc. I do have two retractables though and they are very convenient. One is a drop light with the light lopped off and a plug on it instead

How about cords that aren't stiff as a wedding night hard on when it's cold?

Alaska cold?

Any PVC lined cords will get ultra stiff. Rubber lined cords won't stiffen up as bad as PVC.
I have the blue "arctic" ones and they are near impossible to coil up to put away without swearing unless they are brought inside to warm up.

The orange ones jut snap like dry twigs when cold. I had a video on my old phone of one sticking out like 10ft like a tape measure then snapping 🤣

Worked with a guy years ago that tied all his cords in that daisy chain style. Looked cool, but nowhere near as fast to uncoil as the gaffer's over-under technique and you don't have to uncoil the whole thing to use it.
And of course if you let anyone else touch it they will turn it into a knot it will take till break to untangle
