Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship

Seems like what people have been asking for, for awhile now. They have to choose between being a publisher, or a platform. If you want the near unlimited legal protections associated with being a platform, by all means be a platform. Anybody can post anything as long as it doesn’t break other laws. If you choose to curate content other than illegal content, you are a publisher and are liable for what’s on your site.

They did it to themselves. Wish they hadn’t, but here we are.

This is kind of my takeaway from the quick unbiased summaries of the EO. Basically, the tech companies decided to push Pres. Trump too far and now companies are going to get scrutinized. I don't see 'small' forums getting nailed because usually they don't edit/moderate content much beyond "don't do illegal shit". One could make a slight argument against squelching bad words as "editing".

Corporations have already been ruled to be individuals, corporate personhood by SCOTUS.

Drive in an HOV with your corprate papers in the passanger seat and tell the officer to pound sand.

but seriously, do you want me to site every SCOTUS ruling thats wrong????

SCOTUS isn’t last because they are right. They are right because they are last.

I AM A GENIUS

And thank god for the Trump Admin. This will go down as one of his most significant accomplishments of his Presidency. This is a win for all Americans.

Private companies should be free to censor and be as biased and manipulative as they want. I don't want the government regulating this.

yup, fuck the FCC.

if any elected official wants to put out unfiltered statements, they can put that shit on their personal .gov website

https://www.whitehouse.gov/ oh look, here is one. That doesn't reasonably reach any greater or fewer number of people than any other online media outlet or platform.

the biggest bullshit is the killing of the "little guys" like backpage or backspace or whatever it was, that led to the end of craigslist personals and all that. those dudes got shitfucked for simply being a platform.

and the damn false pretense sexual conduct with a minor for the 3D gun printer directions dude, also a little guy straight wrecked for being a legal platform.

The pretend anti bully bullies are being poked. I approve. They know exactly what they're doing. They can remind everyone of shit they posted a year ago and every remote acquaintances birthday, they know exactly what facts they want to suppress and what they want to promote. The playing field needs a little leveling.

You realize this is an example of the government 'not' regulating stuff?

It's saying private companies can absolutely be free to censor and be biased, as long as they accept liability for the content they present. It's actually removing government protections that platforms have been (rightly or wrongly) using as a shelter.

I think you missed the part about a platform is somewhat responsible for illegal content... you know hookers not being legal is most of the US. Plus the underage stuff if I recall right.

I don't know enough about the 3D gun printer situation to really have an opinion. Was he an online forum?

the problem is, they can and will easily decry everybody they disagree is liable for content.

if i tell you to drink bleach, and the admin here doesn't edit it despite having edited words before, is the board responsible if you do drink bleach? fuck no. hell, i'm not responsible for it as the standalone comment is impossible to establish ability or intent or distinguish from satire. that won't matter when the board admin gets raided at 0430

backpage had a policy in place "no illegal shit allowed" and all that bullshit was TRIED AND FOUND TO BE BULLSHIT. the whole thing was FALSE, the page NEVER actively traded in illegal hookers, if it did happen there, it was not the fault of the page and illegal posts were removed when found. the point is, the case was build on a complete falsehood and they seized the property and shut that shit down.

the 3d gun printer dude posted his program or whatever it was on the internet, was told to take it down for being a false itar violation, didn't. they tried and failed to get him for doing anything illegal to force it down and he actively provoked them because they couldn't do shit. Turns out, they could convince a chick under 18 years old to lie about her age and find him on a dating app, meet him at a hotel room where they had consensual sex (oh, but she lied about her age, so a minor can't consent) and then they were waiting for him outside the door. Congrats! You got them to fuck off over the code/diagrams for a 3d printed firearm, but now you are a sex offender

those were both 'little guys'. They shitfuck the little guys for extortion leverage over the big fish. twitter might get themselves a fine, 4chan will just get slaughtered :flipoff2:

Wasn't there some cases where a bunch of kids talked another kid into killing himself and they never were held to any kind of crime?

If you tell someone to drink bleach and they do it, I don't think a crime was committed. Hell, the Clorox bottle tells the user not to drink it.

You need a new example.

i'd say more often than not, kids talking kids to killing themselves IS treated as a crime.

the point was still that the board shouldn't be held liable. twitter posted a fact-check on the president, that isn't direct censorship or anything of the sort, holding the format liable for content that gets posted in BS, i'm not particularly concerned if it is the format host itself or the end users. I just needed some quick and fairly benign example of how the board (host/format) shouldn't be liable for the content that gets generated, regardless if they can edit/censor it and don't

And this. This really goes for evreyone, dont like getting censored on a platform you are using, create your own. This sites a great example of that.

They've had to know this was coming, they've been absolutely blatant about obfuscating and some outright hindering free access to people, opinion, news, etc for anything or anyone, that didn't fit into the mainstream leftist narrative being pushed along by major media outlets as well socialist politicians driving for a new socialist utopia, where everything is free, nobody has to work, and unicorns and rainbows will shoot out of my ass.

They've been doing this shit for a long time now, hell, well before they de-platformed Alex Jones, and there's been all sorts of rumbling around interwebs that this was happening more and more frequently and they finally went and directly screwed with the HOMFIC, and he slapped that executive order on your ass so fast, that you know damn well he had that shit pre-prepared in the top desk drawer, just waiting until they finally went full retard with editorial opinion bullshit and he said enough was enough.

All they had to do was give all viewpoints, ESPECIALLY those of hot button topics and more specifically political topics equal treatment, regardless of the companies political leanings and societal opinions, regardless of how good the topics were treated or how poorly topics are treated as long as they are treated equally. That's all they had to do, just don't "piss in the pool" as it were. Unfortunately the leadership of these companies couldn't resist using their platform to sway opinion on things they took umbrage to, things like firearms, conservative opinions, etc so they began to adjust information, opinion, etc we had access to through their platforms giving their preferred form of utopia basically, an exceedingly preferential head start over ideas counter to their own.

Now they went and stepped on their dicks, and took it too far and they'll "pay the price" and they'll stop being so overt about their activities.

Edit: fuck this shit is strong, I sprlle for shit after that bowl, damn.
