Ex 6.5 4l80e van with a treefiddy constantly stalls

Had a 93 6.2 diesel with the 4L80-E. Had a standalone computer for the trans as the engine was mechanical. It had an adjustable throttle position sensor on the injection pump only for the transmission. When it went bad that 4L80 was a whole different animal.
If this is his case shouldn't something like this solve his issue?

Don't know what year that van is. In 94 the 6.5s went electronic it was 1991-1993 only for mechanical diesels and 4L80e's as the gas engines were all TBI.

Get the motor running right, timing, idle, choke etc. Warm up the motor to operating temp then jack up the rear end and see if the tires start turning quik like the tcc is engaged.

The rear end has been chopped off.

If the converter is locked and everything unplugged, get under there with a mallet and give the torque converter a few hits, hopefully the tcc releases. Based on the same shit you had to do to a lockup th350 if the clutch got stuck on and unplugging the harness from the trans didn't do the trick.

Not helpful, but that thing is cool. Fuck anyone who says it's a waste of a van.

Did you swap the steering box so it's intuitive, or do you just steer opposite?

Don't the TCC valves suck in the 4L80e? Could be an easy fix.

There is no way that thing goes fast enough to lock the converter. If the converter is locked it is broken or mice have chewed the wires and shorted the wire to the tcc.

Challenge accepted. :flipoff2:

Lol does the tranny stick out past the cab on that thing.

We need more pictures of that thing once the plane is unloaded.
I'll get some next time I'm up there, the floats are hiding all the cool shit. 4 wheel steer, lift platform is adjustable up/down on both ends and in/out on width, all hydraulic.

Should have left the th350 bolted to the motor.
2wd
What a waste of what would have been a pretty nice van. Seems like any generic mini-van, or even a 4wd truck, would have been a much better donor.
Vans are better for these contraptions since the drivetrain is pushed back keeping them shorter. Plus it was a clapped out box van. And free because they put the box on a new chassis and the owner didn't want it back.
If the converter isn't locking and the trans isn't locked up nothing is going to cause the engine to stall when you put the trans in drive.

Your shitbox 350 is probably idling at 300rpm or the carb is goofed up. Did you rev up the engine real high and then pop it into gear at all? That's the right way to make this work long-term.
1/3 of the time that works, but even downhill off the trail king slide axle trailer when he brought it back up last weekend it was stalling on me. But like you said it could very well be an engine/carb issue.

No, he's built a few for the big seaplane base in town and they swap them but this thing basically moves in a straight line. And it has front steer tires which do most of the work.
I used to work on airport ground service equipment. I expect this contraption to be every bit as terrifying at 40 mph as a conveyor truck
40? 4 is probably pushing it :lmao:
