Electrical amps vs volts

The question was, was it amps or volts the bad transformer was reading? I had an electrician say that it must have been volts, both others say it was amps.

I cant help it when I read many iRate posts. Most of them nothing to do with what is being asked. I refuse to accept that idiocy, it makes my skin crawl. I wont judge on your electrical wonder house that draws more than a machine shop but holy shit there are electrical forums. What are you going to do when the price per killowatt hour doubles ? See :flipoff2: Off topic just like that.

Make more money. That’s easier than figuring out wtf is going on.

The utility company initially thought it was a neutral issue but turned out to be a bad transformer. They also mentioned amps when they checked things, but my electrician said it was probably volts they meant. In your case, 150-180 amps sounds like a lot going into the house, and it could’ve been a voltage spike causing the transformer to overheat. The kW to Amps calculator helped me out when trying to figure out the right numbers for my setup—worth a look if you're trying to double-check what might have been going on.
