I am currently running a setup where the booster gets vacuum from the intake as well as a separate mechanical cam driven vacuum pump.

Late model Suburbans and other GM gen 5 engines have an engine driven pump. They are completely stand alone - hooked to the brake booster. Driven off a separate, 4 rib belt, 2 belt crank pulley - behind the primary drive.
They use engine oil for lube.
I'd do an iBooster electric brake booster first. (I am doing one on my CJ8)
