I was asking myself that while in the shower. Why did I even buy the tube when I can end the concrete below the surface. Lack of planning maybe.
Its not bad to end the concrete above the ground in a nice round shape. But like he said, 10” would have been fine. Maybe 4” out of the ground. It will keep the steel more rust free.
Honestly, I would just poured The concrete with fiber. Then drilled 4 holes for concrete anchor bolts. You could save more than half that steel. If it ever gets damaged in the future, just un bolt and make a new one to bolt on. Your not going to tear anchor bolts out of fiber cement, especially if you have a fair spread. (Like 10 or 12”) Steel rusts inside concrete.
Edit, that’s the way I did the feet on this tower. Plastic 55 gallon drum cut off about 10”. The concrete is a lot bigger under ground. This tower didn’t budge in 105 mph wind in a hurricane.
