Drill bit sharpener? What are y'all usin'?

I've got a circa 2008 Drill doctor. Its a semi piece of plastic junk. Once I changed the default settings to a 135 deg from a 118 I have been much happier with it.
However, because my collection of drill bits grew to much larger than the "Up to 3/4" that the 750x or whatever it is I have would handle, I just snagged this B&S No 13 Universal Tool Grinder for basically next to nothing... because... it needs fixtures, which seem to be harder to find than I hoped. But, I did get a powered headstock with it, but no tool chucks, collets, or holders other than the dead centers. Hoping to use this thing for Drill bits, Lathe tools, so end mills, and actually I've got literally half a ton of Uni-Punch tooling that I need to grind pilots on and then sort and sell.

Drill doctor. Anything 1/4" or less I buy in 10 packs or so and they just get pitched when they're no good. The drill doctor doesn't do the point real well so I keep a bunch of screw machine length small drills on hand for pilot holes.

Title says it all
I am sick of dull bits (my fault for trying to drill rusty steel) LOL
The only reference I found searching was for a drill Dr. any other brands/types?
Belt sander and a drill gauge.

There’s a whole lot you can do with a drill via knowing how to sharpen/profile one by hand.

Fishtail drill, drilling square holes, triangle holes, penta holes, making a drill drill a slightly bigger hole on purpose, making a drill drill a bigger hole on accident...

I have a bit that I sharpened that drills pentagon holes...by accident :lmao:

Using replacement bits via mc master carr and or MSC.

We have a Sowa drill sharpener at work. It works well but quite a bit more than a drill doctor.

Gotta like the stickers. "Web Diamter" and "Don't open which power on" You would think it would be cheaper...

ProjectFarm did a comparison video.

I've got one of these sitting by my belt sander, but I haven't bothered to set it up yet. PF liked it.

What grit belt on the belt sander do you use for bit sharpening? Wondering if 120 is fine enough.

BTDT!

But just try to make one cut like that on purpose and you’ll get anything but.
I sharpened my 5/8" drill 3x in a row thinking i was fucking it up and killing it only to realize I was hitting my travel stop :homer:

Being stupid is easier by hand

I had a drill doctor and sold it since it didn't work that great. I had a bench grinder I freehand them on now. I did use my drill doctor for all my bits 3/8" and smaller before selling it.

We have a drill dr at work. It’s hit or miss if it works well. Only one guy ever uses it so it’s not operator error. The last time they got sharpened. Some ended up just straight ends so it wouldn’t bite and pull chips. I ended up rolling the edge over on the bench grinder and they worked fine after that. Unless it’s a critical hole, not much we work on is, I will just hit the bench grinder and sharpen it by hand. They don’t tend to get “too” fucked unless someone melts the tip by drilling stainless dry....yes it’s happened.

Stainless is some weird shit.

Some grades drill easy, others not so much.

It’s a speed issue and if you don’t know your grade and how well it machines it’s a big crap shoot.

Slower is generally better.
