Wait Neil Young is still alive?
Yea, but he's Neil Old now.
It is interesting how the way information is presented and the appearance of who is presenting it affects our ability to accept the information. Take this video, two nicely dressed, well kept, well-spoken men in a "nice" setting: they are talking about controversial subjects, yet they are much more likely to be taken seriously and the information they are presenting is more likely to be received by their intended audience than some of the other "conspiracy theorists" videos I have seen.
I recently saw another video (that I would not repost here as I think they are off the deep end of the conspiracy theory spectrum), where, again, there were two guys discussing "conspiracy theories." These guys, however, were not well dressed (one was wearing a Pirate hat), were not well kept (one had a scraggly goatee, the other needed to comb his hair), they were not poor speakers, but they were not well spoken either and both of them as some point in the "show" lit up a joint. The information they were giving would most likely be 100% dismissed by everyone except for people who were also already off the deep end of conspiracy theories; and that's a shame because there were bits of factual information which they provided that would, in turn, be dismissed along with the rest of the "off the deep end conspiracy."
Specifically (and briefly mentioned in the above video) is the fact that there was a "pandemic simulation" that took place immediately before Covid. One piece of information that the "pirate" and his co-host talked about was a computer system that was used to model public reaction to news/events as it relates to the spread of a deadly virus and how information that is presented affects that public reaction. Now, these guys went off the deep end with it, saying essentially that there's a huge quantum computer network that is able to "replicate" every living person on earth -- e.g. you can't know if you're part of the "simulation" or if you are a real person; when they went there (especially, taking a hit off their joint as they presented the information), they lost all but the gullible and/or deep conspiracy theorists. This is unfortunate, because there are computer systems capable of modeling complex scenarios such as weather patterns, or public reception of information.
What was dismissed by the majority, and only barely touched on in the above video, is that the "pandemic simulation" included complex computer models to figure out how best to disseminate information to the population so that it would be received rather than rejected. One only has to take a look at the last 2+ years to see that, whatever they learned from that computer simulation worked and worked well as they were able to convince an entire population that the seasonal flu was a new deadly virus that warranted shutting down the entire world.
