What's new

Don't we have a "bitch about idiots on CL or Marketplace" thread?

*Laughs in PennySaver. :laughing::flipoff2:

I used to deliver those to multiple Apt complex-

I loathe Facebook. I do, however, use the marketplace function. I hate that marketplace has all but killed craigslist. But people are dumb and that's beyond my control, so if I want to try to get deals, that's what I need to use.

Anyways, back to bitching about Facebook.

Recently marketplace algorithms have decided that I need to see a section of "recently sold" items. And no matter how many times I close out that section it keeps coming back.

:mad3:

Any idea how to stop reels from reappearing? Ive disabled everything I can find in fuckbook, hide it and it keeps coming back

So my friend is looking for a diesel motor. He finds one in some truck in NC. The ad says 50,000 original miles. (Old truck) My friend contacts him and the story is his dad bought it and was going to make a dump bed. Removed the bed and never did any more. Years later died and the son is helping his mom sell it.

My friend is ready to fly up there to look at it when he asks for the vin number. The guy sends him a photo of a document with the number. My friend runs a car fax on it and it says the truck had 250,000 on it 4 years ago. My friend calls the guy back and says your ad is wrong. The guy says he didn’t know and was just reading the odometer. My friend is not interested.

Later, my friend happens to notice the document that the guy sent with the vin on it was the corner of a car fax for that truck. He could see the date and it was less than a year old. So that asshole knew miles on it. Dumb shit.

Dude, that shit bothers the bajeezus out of me since it's not obvious unless you see the header of "recently sold" as you scroll through. You'll think you found a deal or whatever, only to click and see it's sold...

No. But i have another in worse shape ill sale you for twice as much.

Fine. But when you get here i will have sold it to the guy who got here in 4 and ill make it seem like your fault
Sorry, I couldn't make it because I had to drop my kid off because he's getting an anal lesion removed, and then I had to take a huge shit and stop by the pharmacy to pick up my meds because I'm a bit of a schizophrenic, which is why my last wife left me.

Can you meet tomorrow instead? Do you take payments?

just remembered i was messaging a guy that wanted to trade a car for whatever i was selling at the time, pretty sure i had open to trades in the ad

so i asked for pics and the description, blah blah blah, ask a couple more questions, seems like a good deal, and then after awhile i ask if it has a clean title... nope salvage title

jesus fawk save us some time and tell me that up front :mad3:

What exactly does a salvage title mean? I know it was totaled in the past for some reason like maybe a flood car, but what does it mean now? Can it be made to drive legal? Or does it have to be parts?

I've been getting sold listings a lot too.

Worse, I've searched for Shapers, ya know, the reciprocating machine tool you might use to cut groves/keyways/splines in things with.

After searching for Shapers, I'm now inundated with ads for women's foundation garments, i.e. shape wear. :homer::laughing:

depends on the state.

My tacoma has a "salvage" title because it was hit while parked (similar to Harry's tacoma), but it took out an uber-expensive camper that was on it at the time... Very minor damage otherwise, but the camper put it over the top re: $$$.

in CA its just extra steps and less value, for some reason you have to do a yearly lamp inspection

and then i think insurance is more

usually out here it was in an accident and then got fixed

Varies wildly state to state

I messaged someone Wednesday about a trash bin and said I could pick it up Friday (today), and would message this morning for the address. They gave a thumbs up and then the box pops up asking to rate the seller. A few hours later it was marked as sold, with no other messages. Would you assume that they sold it to someone else with just that info?

Just send another message

Just send another message
I did today asking for the address and they said they sold it to someone else which is why I was trying to see if I was misreading the situation before.

 that sounded like they sold it to you

If I'm selling I'll tell people, hey just a heads up i gotta guy coming to look at it X day

Not as a selling tactic, just to be an honest person and keep them in the loop :homer:

I'm guilty of that.
People say all the the time, "Hey I want this, can I pick it up next tuesday?"
Sure.

The next day I delete the ad as I sold it to someone else, I don't so holds.

There is another topic, do you guys mark the item as sold and identify the buyer? Fuck that, delete the ad.

See I'm fine if it's first come, first serve. The guy could have told me that when I asked about getting it 2 days later and I wouldn't have any issues. Hell, if he had wrote that he sold it to someone else after he marked it sold, I would have been fine. Maybe I'm just testy cause it's the second Marketplace idiot I dealt with this week!

I never mark something sold, once it's gone I delete the ad. I'll occasionally mark an ad with "pending" if I have someone on my two hour timer, once the clock runs out the "pending" comes off and it's back up for grabs.

I also usually include " No holds, first with the cash takes it home."

Decided sellers are just as bad.

Been trying to get a response from a guy selling a utility bed that he says was in a Toyota. Perfect for my needs and price is where it needs to be.

Pinged him multiple times with very simple questions and reinforced that I’m extremely interested if I can get some quick measurements. Don’t want to drive 90 miles if there’s no chance it’ll work.

Dude won’t respond.

Sold a toyota crawl box a little bit ago and had a trans that could go with it. Kid tried to do the whole, "since you didnt drive the truck with the trans Im gonna take that as its a core."

Wanted 1200 for both. Kid said he'd give me $1k for all and I said for 1k you get the crawl box. He thought for a second and said, I'll give you $1050 for just the crawl box. :homer:

Had someone all set up to come look at a tractor yesterday morning. The person asked all yhe tight questions and sounded totally legit, and then went completely dead on comunication the morning of. Not that big of a deal but its very rare to deal with complete flakes with tractors.

Entirely possible he dropped dead or something overnight.

Why did worn out toyota's exclusively draw sketchy ass mexicans from 3 states away? I ignore an average of 10 juans and joses per day. And when someone who speaks English finally sends a message, they expect it to be some bring a trailer shit for 2k.
