What's new

Do you have a primary care?

On paper I have one, in reality I havent seen him in years.
I do have a yearly checkup with a specialist if that counts for anything though

The closest thing to a PCP I've had in 25 years is the grumpy old fuck that has done my DOT physicals for the last handful of renewals and the other old dude at the urgent care that I've seen 3 times in a decade. I'm lucky with my health.

besides getting a piece of metal taken out of my eye at the emergency room i havent been to a doctor for 20yrs  im sure as i get older and start having more problems i will eventually go more often

No. Usually I just go to the v.d. clinic, if I'm good there the rest doesnt matter.

One entire town worth of doctors here is to be avoided at all cost, or a dr may be the reason you die.

Last physical was almost 11 years ago. Reduced liver and kidney function, random chest pains, autoimmune disease that wont go away, dermatologist told me I need a cancer screening. I'm almost afraid to know, but when it's my time it's my time.

It sounds like all of you need to quit seeing doctors and find a good nurse practitioner.

I don't go unless I'm seriously concerned. And that's after I google and research for awhile, and then even then I go to a specialist. I called and scheduled my own MRI one time. Whoever said a PCP is like a parts monkey at Napa is right on the money. They just read their computer, which has the same questions as Web MD.

So if I have an issue that needs a Dr attention, I make the appt, show up, then have to convince a doctor that I do actually know what I need and what the issue is and can they please just do what I am asking for. Like going to Autozone to get parts for your flat topped D44 under your jeep, "uh sir those parts dont go together, some are chevy and others are ford"... yeah I know dumbass, just go get the part numbers I am asking you to get.

I hadn’t seen a doctor for years after I got out of the Army. Mrs finally guilted me into going to “get checked out” since I was now a father and such. I have great medical insurance through work, just never needed to use it for me. So... I make an appointment, meet my geriatric Dr, get a physical, then he retires.

A few months go by when I get a notification from a new Dr to make an appointment for a check up. I was a little surprised to find out my new Dr was female, I’ve never had a female Dr before. She’s pretty cool, East Indian I think, not bad looking either. She does give me a look when she asks if I drink, then how much

Swing by my dentist. All chicks in their early 20s, 5', and STACKED. Every single one. My favorite appointment I make twice a year.

Been thinking I need to call in and see if I have a primary care doc. I am 35 and the last time I had one he was a pediatrician :lmao: They used to send me letters every now and then telling me that Dr. Abdul Abbottabad or some shit was now my doctor.

I have a funky dry skin thing going on my fingertips that has been going on too long. I can't work on anything for 2 minutes without some vaseline handy to keep my skin from cracking. Fucking forget getting acetone or gas on my hands. I will probably have to get a referral to see a dermatologist or something.

I should probably have some blood work done too, been overweight most of my life and am disgustingly healthy for the effort I put in. I have a vague sense of dread about all of the shit they are going to find wrong with me.

Are you hoping Irate will diagnose your conditions?

I never used to have a PCP, went to urgent care once or twice when I needed something.

Then last march I got a hernia and didn’t know what to do, urgent cares were closed because Covid, so it was ER or find a PCP. All docs were 2-3 months out for new patients so I got my boss to pull some strings with someone he knew and got in in a couple days. Now I have a PCP.
