6.0 is thirsty, yes, but not more than similar option V10 mod. We actually conducted this experiment on a 4 hour trip years ago (not planned , just how it worked out) hauling crawlers 250mi one way. My V10, 8.1 chev, 6.0 chev (all 4x4) ad a 2wd V10 mod. Same speeds, similar loads. All had between 175 and 225k on the clock. Mine was the only stick, but 4:10s, the rest 3.73 autos. 6.0 got the best mileage , both V10s were about even, 8.1 was worst. V10 magnum and 8.1 were the only two trucks that could accelerate up a grade with any kind of authority.It drinks less gas than a 6.0 LS.
