Dirt Squirrel 3.0 - The 2nd Mortgage

Looks awesome as always!

I've heard of Runva but I didn't realize they made a short drum like that, looks like the cure for my flat fender winch dilemma.
Better get one soon if you need one that size (plenty out there still).....they are discontinuing the 9.5 and going slightly larger.

HA HA you need to hide your key better. On another note... I found some 1.75 .120 DOM for 4.80/ft.. Time to chop the cab on ol red. I picked up 4 sticks..

I think its time to build one from scratch. Old Red had a good run.

Very interested to see how your flipped exhaust manifolds work out.....

Any idea if the same can be done to a 5.3L LSX?

They should be interchangeable left and right. I bought an extra set for this engine just in case i messed up adding the V-Bands.

Yes, LS exhaust manifolds can be swapped side to side. Pretty standard in the cheap turbo world.

The intake can also be mounted forward or backwards.
Thanks for confirming.

And yeah, my intake is already swapped around for clearance and to pull air from the 'interior'.

Can you share a few more pictures of the axle C shock mounts. Is there a gusset in there and a welded nut on the back side?

They aren’t quite finished yet. The nut isn’t welded to the back of the inner mount. They will be boxed in and have a gusset under it to add more weld area. Kinda like in this pic.

I like the idea of welding the skids on and making the trans removeable out the top. As long as you have enough room to get in there with a hoist to pull it (assuming you'd have to work below the roll cage), that sounds like a really slick option.

Ive been going back and forth on it. Im leaning towards having the skid removable just in case i need to drop the trans pan or clean it out. Id hate to have to pull the trans every time for some little shit.

FWIW my belly is removable and my trans/cases comes out from the inside. Worst part about pulling the trans is pulling the seats and harness's. The floor and tunnel comes out quick and everything is right there.

I plan on making my seats a quick release. Slotted in the rear and pinned up front.

That's a good idea, even if you had 2 bolts up front, it would be pretty quick. The rear bolts on my 81 are a nightmare for the front seats.

suspension seats suck for mounting. and other things. when I had them I used double shear tabs for the rear mounts with a through rod that hose clamped to the cage, and a removable tube with threaded inserts for the front mounts.

I'm in the middle of switching to composite shell seats so if you want I can get some good pictures before I cut all the old stuff out.

Not to hi-jack the thread but looking at getting some seats for new project. I have sat in the PRP gt/se seats and really like them. They are designed for SXS applications. They are flat bottom mounts. You can order then with the vertical tabs if desired. I know the vertical tabs are the usual style but i wonder if flat wouldnt have advantages too. But would like to make them quick release too.

I for one would like to see how you mounted them... If the OP doesn't want them in his thread and you're taking 'em anyway, maybe make a thread or send 'em to me via PM? Thanks!

ok here's the mounts.

front mount is a t-bar made from 1x.120 that fits between the forward seat tabs. threaded ends are A&A MFG part number AA-138. that bolts to the chassis via tube flanges. bottom one is welded right to the main rail tube. this t-bar comes out with the seat.

rear seat tabs are just generic 3/8 tabs I had lying around that fit. the 3/8 rod is shaped like an L. long end goes through all the seat tabs and short end gets hosed clamped to the door bar.

super easy R&R.

Started to focus on the interior seat mounting and center console area. I moved the down bars forward and in some to help open up some foot room. ill add gussets as necessary. Seat bar will tie into the door bars once they are in place.

Some CAD work.

Center console will continue down the center through the middle of the seats. I plan on making the tubework on top of the trans removable so i can pull the trans from up top if need be.

Anyone got the hookup for tube clamps/couplers? Either interlocking or straight? With looking at Kartek and Ruffstuff ill be needing like $500 worth of them.
