Dirt Squirrel 3.0 - The 2nd Mortgage

Started to add a hood yesterday. Needs some slight adjustment and a little more trimming and some rubber edge trim to finish it out. Ill try to patina match the fenders. Maybe some stripes? We will see if i need to pop some speed holes in the front part for air flow. I still need to find a cowl to behind the top part to finish it off.

are you happy with your gearing with the 4.3 atlas? is it deep enough when needed or too deep? would 5 to one be better with the v6?

Sometime i wish i had went with the 5.0. 95% of the time its just fine as is, but when i am extremely bound up, something lower would be nice.

18th Toyota Lonestar Lamboree was over the weekend. The rain held off and it was a great ol time. Didnt need the windshield at all and i think i need to cut some speed holes or add some louvers to let air out from under the hood. It didnt overheat or get close to it, but it was definitely warmer in the cab. Probably a combo of both.

Its a big event for sure. Catered to more of the newer Toyota 4wd vehicles. Id say 95% of those who show up are 2010 or new vehicles. Solid axles are the minimum for sure. Still fun to hang out and wheel with original people who started it.

Any updates?
Been wheeling the shit out of it. Flopped once and bent a couple rods. Ticked a little then when boom on the the next trip out. Shot a rod out the side of the block. Replaced the engine with a 0-mile LV1 4.3l long block from GM. It was cheaper than having it rebuilt. Im taking it out this coming wheen to AZ so we will see how it works out.

As much as the lv1/3 is about the perfect buggy/lighter rig engine, I hate that they're somewhat hard to find.

the dealer has like 3k LV1s in stock for $2400 list price plus a core. So find one super super cheap with a bad lifter or something and go get a 0-mile long block from them. Thats what i did. And the LV1 doesnt have AFM or DOD so no need to cam swap or delete it.
