What's new

Detroit Diesels on Song.

ol2stroker on youtube has some pretty good 2 stroke Detroit action, including the first of it's kind common-rail 8V92 (not his build)

Had an early 80s LTL9000 with an Icy/dry air switch on the dash. Icy would reduce air to the steer brakes. Good truck, 400 Cummins, 15 speed.
I had two LTL 9000

One with a 400 Cummins 9 speed and another with a 425 cat 13 speed

Didn’t have the brake switch though .

Those rigs were way ahead of their time with the wide cab .
And the double layer fiberglass hood .

I bought the fords because they had the same drivetrain as a KW or Pete but were less than half price .

I had originally posted this as a follow up to “post a picture of where you are right now” thread but I deleted that since this goes better here.

Turn up the volume.

Found a good place to get delo 100 40wt..... the local West Marine stocks it.

How is this the first time I’m seeing this thread. Must’ve been a-holes and elbows in race prep.

Goddamn. That slowed the Earths rotation a smidgen during that pull.

Prolly would've dragged that sled to hell and back given enough time. Impressive indeed.

You can tell he knows what he’s doing. If he ever had to shift he’d lose everything so it starts off slow as hell, ends the same. Slow as hell. When I go to hell, an 8V92T is going be there making the background noise of my eternal damnation.

Ran a John Deere scraper in the early 90s had a Detroit and it was direct drive straight piped, parts was suppossedly hard to get for the drive train, so you had to baby it a bit before going wide open. Everything but the detroit was Junk. Didnt have earplugs was shoving ciggerrette butts in my ears, and i didnt smoke.

I overhauled and upgraded a 6v92 over the winter for my motorhome. It should be around 450hp now, DDEC IV, etc. First start up in a week or two. The 6's and 12's seem to me to make the best sound. When I went to the Rollag show a couple years ago they had a Stieger display and a bunch of other 4wd tractors and almost all of them had 2-strokes in them. That giant Big Bud has a 16v-92 IIRC.

It's saying something when the dbags on Youtube are blowing them up only after running them out of coolant and oil, like 15 minutes later. If they didn't do that they would probably still be singing on the rev limiter today. No practical use for most of them now, I get that, but still.

When society collapses and the Australian motorcycle cannibals have killed us all, the last thing running is going to be a two stroke Detroit that somebody forgot about. Probably a generator with a giant tank of fuel.

Nah, they'll run out of oil for it.

My first truck I bought in 88 was a 81 International cabover, 350 Cummins 9 speed with leaf springs and manual steering .

my arms and chest ached for the first three months , but after that I had rock hard abs and nice forearms .
HA, I drove an 84 freightshaker with same drivetrain under it. I was stronger than you tho as I don’t remember it killing me but once. That was when I was in the old mining cave system in Kansas City where they converted it into underground warehouses. I picked up a load in there and getting out was to say the least a motherfucker. Because of the layout of the huge earth post they left to hold the roof of the cave up, made it extremely difficult for me to get turned back around in there. I could’ve arm wrestled Arnold after that bout. Today I wonder how they get 53’ers inside there without a yard truck.

I remember seeing all the big green Terex earthmovers being used out there growing up and into my adulthood into the 90’s. You didn’t see them much around after the 90’s here. I remember back in the 60’s black cab yellow bed dump trucks running up and down the road where my mom shot bow league. They were loud as fuck driving by but I loved watching them.
