Jack Karlson, a notorious Australian prison escapee and petty criminal, gained worldwide fame in 2009 after a 1991 video of his arrest at a Chinese restaurant in Brisbane went viral. The clip showcased Karlson’s dramatic and poetic declaration, “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest!” while resisting arrest.

Karlson’s life was marked by a series of prison escapes and aliases, with some sources suggesting his real name may have been Cecil George Edwards. Despite his criminal record, he maintained his innocence regarding the 1991 arrest, which was for credit card fraud.

In the years leading up to his death, Karlson’s fame endured, with various tributes and reunions. In 2024, he revisited the China Sea restaurant for a documentary, “The Man Who Ate a Succulent Chinese Meal,” set for release in March 2025.

Karlson passed away on August 7, 2024, at the age of 82, surrounded by his family after a battle with prostate cancer. His legacy as a meme icon and Australian larrikin continues to be celebrated.

Juan “Chi Chi” Rodriguez, an eight-time PGA Tour winner and one of the most charismatic and beloved figures in pro golf, has died at age 88.
Rodriguez’s death was first announced by Carmelo Javier Rios, a member of the Senate in Puerto Rico. The cause of death has not yet been named. His death was also reported on the Puerto Rico Golf Association website.
Small in stature, Rodriguez was a big hitter off the tee and one of its great entertainers. His comedic antics included placing his hat over holes to keep birdies from flying away. He said he developed that ritual in which he often danced the salsa because he once sank a putt and a toad in the hole made the ball pop out. His opponent wouldn’t count it and he lost a nickel so he began trapping the ball in the hole with his trademark fedora. Some thought he was too much of a hot dog but the fans loved it and he attracted some of its largest galleries.

Figured he was gone a long time ago.
For those that don't know his voice can be heard on Jackson Brown"s song "Load out" singing the verse "Oh won't you stay just a little bit longer"
"Running on Empty" album
I have heard both songs 100s of times and never put the two together .:homer: Thanks for pointing that out. RIP Maurice,

Little skinny white boy, David Lindley, performed the live stage version. Did an amazing job too. The uTube live performance is him singing. IMO Running on Empty is one the best produced albums ever. Drove many many miles coast to coast on Empty.
