Irregardless of what your experience may have been with Davez, he did have some nice products for sale.

Much to my chagrin, I recently discovered his website is no more, and the phone has been disconnected. I know the website has been for sale for a while, but I'm curious if anyone heard anything definitive regarding when he finally shut the doors.

Secondarily, and more selfishly, what's become of any leftover stock he may have had?

Mods, if this is the wrong place,I apologize. Just didn't want it to get buried in chit chat.

Finally :flipoff2:
And SOOOOOOOOWHAT.
last thing.
In before the fanboi's

I'm running a couple of his twin sticks without issue, I know he had a bad name, and had shipping issues, I got lucky.

Not a Fanboi, the product works good

I've only every ordered one thing from him and it was lost in the mail. He was quick about sending another one out though.

So we have and endorsement for some off road parts house, but no tech. Yeah...

it's been probably 4 or 5 years since i've been out there....dang, probably been more than that now. Anyways, back then he had already shut down what was the shop and was based out of his house in town, with offsite yard holding all the accumulated parts. looked to be just drop shipping rather than in house fab/install and other custom work.

which is a bummer, because he did do some decent stuff over the years. Seems like he shut down for his retirement. Well, once the big blowout with trail gear went down, it was really the start of the dramatic slide from functional offroad shop to trying to keep the lights on. I get the principled decision it's just tough when trail gear was a massive part of his business and he was one of their largest venders. Shifting even the website to china-mart or trail-queer or whatever it was, was comical but not exactly prudent from a $$ perspective.

If you end up in georgetown it'd probably be pretty easy to spot his place and do a deal in person. don't think there is another way to go about it for him.

I like dave, pretty much always had a decent experience with him, none of the hate. much better wheeler than business owner is what it has always looked like to me, but that's super common and how it goes.

Yup
TG twin stick, I did buy Davez, but packaging didn't work in this truck, I ended up selling it to someone here I think.

Ordered 6-shooters, said would ship next day, took my money.

Two weeks later yay parts!

Would have been faster to drive to Fresno.

That was before I knew about Sidetracked and never looked back. Morgan has lots of TG in stock in Folsom.

Called for Fox coilovers last year and had them next day in hand.

What was the tg blowout?

I do remember he had tg parts listed as trailmart

remember before trail gear consolidation of everybody really starting ramping up? they went super hard about going to chinese source for as much product as they could. it gave them some pretty impressive growth with the wal-mart approach. Then they took that and really started some huge growth stuff, there was a total shift in that company and honestly, at this point, they are a HUGE reason why any of this stuff even still exists for toyotas and zuks.

but it was a big deal of them going hard offshore and davez went from at or near the largest trail gear vendor out there to actively advertising against them and never turned back.

Trail gear became a savior because they were able to actually grow and maintain their business. hell, they may well have been rolled up into another conglomerate by now even. Marlin, Davez, Inchworm, FROR/Diamond, Marlin, CalMini, Sky's....and however many others you want to add, check out those businesses 20 years ago, then 10 years ago, then today. it's pretty interesting to see.

if nothing else, trail gear trying to corner the market on cheap but available everything in order to stay afloat grew the sport enough to give the tiny shops the growth that they couldn't reach on their own.

Haven't talked with Dave in awhile but was always a solid dude and took care of me, always. Seems like his machinist was a big reason for all the butt hurt due to timing/parts availability. I know the raffle truck was the finally nail in the coffin. Had a couple buddies who had to wait on motors longer than I can remember.

I'm not surprised. He was definitely winding down over the past few years and rarely in any rush to get orders built and shipped.

But he did good work, and had good prices. Just took 5x as long as it should have.

Good, fast and cheap..... you only get to pick 2 when it comes to service with anything

I think Myron is selling off ZOR, he was always neat to talk to

Fwiw
And because he aint here to defend himself...
I only did business with him "once" quote thug from johnny dangerously :grinpimp:
It was unpleasant, long and drawn out.
Would I sit and drink a beer with him?
Absolutely.

My .02 is we need another toyota specialist before big mike axes straight axle support...

They are discontinuing the RF1A upgrades and I can't seem to find any info on the old 30 spline t case stuff

I shouldn't be surprised by this, but I still am. Further evidence of the decline of MC ever since he got involved.

But let's be honest... how many MC08 dual adapters has MC actually sold in the past 5 years? Half the time they are out of stock, the other half stock is limited. And how many guys are actually building trucks with Yota gear drive duals these days?

It's probably not a solid revenue stream for the company. 50/50 between their own fault and the market changing.

Just start finding parts and build a 231/d300 for your taco. You can mate the ax15 right to any 4x4 toyota since 1979. Uses all factory parts other than the doubler case. It's what I did to get away from toy cases.

I have been waiting for this day to come. From what I’ve been told and seen Big Mike could care less about anything mini truck related. Axles or transfer cases. I’ve heard him blame it on the fact that stuff is getting too hard to find. Who knows what the real story is there.

As for Davez I’ve heard all the horror stories of him from living here in the Sacramento area. From good to bad and everything in between. Seems like everyone and their brother had a story about him at one point. It was cool that he did installs, some custom fab, and built motors.

Morgan at Sidetracked has definitely been the better choice for getting parts in town for a few years now.

Just curious if this was publicly announced anywhere, as I've looked and haven't found anything.

I'm late to the game and about to start building my first Toyota after it's sat in my yard for 10 years. I bought an MC08 and other various parts in the last year and they're still sitting in the boxes. Wondering what I don't know I need yet, that might get discontinued before I even get started.

Building toyotas used to be reasonable compared to other vehicles. Look at some of the old crawl mags and the prices advertised were less than half of what they are today. I think TG is the only tcase output upgrade now. Haven't seen rcv or mc offering anything.

Marlin isn't the only game in town and the aftermarket is there. The problem is that everything is over/higher priced and I don't think I could build what I have this day and age. Just the cost of the stock vehicle is absurd. Xj's are now in the same boat. Just my .02

I didn't see anything official but I don't have any social media and everything I've heard was word of mouth. Going on MC's site and I couldn't find the 30 spline outputs they used to offer. They were always quick to sell something they didn't have in stock and hold your money hostage. Getting your money back was my main issue. "Yes we don't have it in stock but we'll refund your money but that's a check and it will take 2-4 weeks for you to see it in the mail" marlin crawler sales
