Samurai buggy 3ft of factory frame...dana 44 front 12 bolt rear, 22r to 5spd to toyota duals with 4:7 rear running 40" kr2s...

First 15 mins at k2 in March I believe I completely obliterated the short side inner, outer, and joint. The joint appeared to break taking out the inner and bent the allot stub ears but didn't break. I've since been to wolf caves with fresh alloy shafts from ecgs and full circle clips with spicer joints and complete refresh of bearings with no issue on the axle. With that said I have a chevy dana 60 I'm slowly gathering parts for cause I want peace of mind.

Scout II D44's under a 62 CJ3b (95 CPI 4.3 / NP435 / D20). Has one chromo outer after a stock outer killed a warn lockout, currently on milemarkers. My repair mission at this point is replacing the wheel bearing hubs on both sides after many snapped lockout to hub bolts this season. Got a couple out and finished the last trip with a few gr8 bolts in place..

What steering box are you running? Can’t believe it doesn’t rub on your tires! 37”?

Scout II box, fronts rub the 3 link at lock so wouldn't hurt to have another few inches either side but does well and is handy narrow. It's on cut 38 pats now and the old motor and light weight are helping it out ;)

Have it up on IG at @62cj3b for vids and more pics without spamming this thread

My Signature pic has a HP 44 with 8 lug Chevy outers, 4.88 gears and 37s. Need to drop in 5.13s but I barely drive it anymore.

79 f250 hp44 with detroit, yukon gears, rcv's,highsteer arms and ball joint deletes. This thing has been in three different rigs over the years behind two different ls motors and usually 40's. So far it's never let me down. Recently disassembled for repairs but couldn't find anything wrong with it so on to the next rig.

Do you think most of the success is due to the RCV axles?

A HP D44 should live a long life powered by a LS as long as you understand the throttle pedal isn't just WOT or not WOT, especially while locked with both tires on a solid surface.

To WOT, or not to WOT, that is the question.

I know people that can destroy a Rockwell after a few beers. I don't try to kill it but we get in some pretty serious granite rocks around here. I think survival of a 44 changes depending on which axle you have. With a hp 44 the week points are axles, upper balljoints and steering studs. I double tied the steering, rcv and ball deletes. Weakest point is definitely the axles so rcv's help the most.
Gears can be a huge problem if not setup perfectly.
