Anyone have experience with the factory crank driven p/s pump on a 460 (69 Lincoln in this case).
Worth fucking with?

Not a 69 or 460

But i fucked with a 66 a bunch.

What a misserable concept and application.

What are you needing to know?

Is there useable power to be had to do the steering?
Mods/Worth the time?

Better have damm good filtration as something clogs it and its gonna snap something quick.

Are you trying to up the steering power in said car or use the motor in somthing else?

Unless you have a hard on for that pump and oe config you would be ahead of the curve to mount a moddern n-pump.

If its anything like the 66 pump i dealt with its a mother fucker to do anything with. Its a roller bearing/cavity in a housing. That housing has relief groove in it. The bearings stand taller than the mid layer so the bearing end in those reliefs. If you flat mill the end plates you will trap the bearings solid. The only way i know of to get anything out of that system is to decrease the clearance around the rollers.

Now, i was only half in on the 66 job and did not think about the relief system ala sag p-pump. so there many be some spring stretching and port drilling like redneck ram taught us.

Ya sorta what I guessed, the puny lines don't leave much for enlarging as well.
Came with donor motor using in 77f150, I'll stick with the proven sag that's in

Can you post a pic of the back side of the pump? How thick is it?

As others have said, it's probably not worth fucking with. Even if there is something to be gained you'd be time and effort ahead to just use a pump where all the things are "known knowns" and you don't have to figure it out as you go.

Only prob is that he needs the inner sleeve to seal the cover and space the dampner.

Figure out a new sleeve and you can sell the crank mount for good money.
Have numerous sleeves and timing covers to chose from, it also has its own timing cover and bolts.
Have seen prices from $40 to $795, I'm sure it'll find a good home.

I thought that was MEL engine (462) only? Don’t think it works on a 385 engine.
