We’ve got to be in Dallas for a couple days soon. We’ve got a boatload of car rental points, hotel points and airline points. My wife and I have never been to New Mexico or Texas. We’re trying to decide if we should make it a road trip, staying the first night in Vegas, the next night in Albuquerque then do what we’ve got to do around Dallas, then so similar on the way back.

This brings up a couple questions.

First, are there super strict covid restrictions in either of these places? I’m not going to try to make a fun trip out of this if we can’t hang out in the hotel hot tubs and sit down for a nice dinner.

Next, I know what the drive is like from here (Northern California) to Vegas, but after that, I’ve no clue. Is it just a shitty drive, or is there scenery?

We canceled all our planned vacations in ‘20 due to covid, so we are anxious to get out of the house for a minute, but not if the drive sucks and/or everything remotely enjoyable is locked down. We’ll just fly if that’s the case.

I’m not sure on restrictions, but I’d guess not great in NV and NM from what I’ve heard.

Drive is ok for scenery, depends on how quick you’re making it. Lots of high desert nothingness though.

Going north of the Grand Canyon gets a lot more variety than I-40.

Nm sucks donkey dick right now. We are no dine in period thru the state so okan on take out or fast food, couple hotels i been to in last few months in abq had pools/hot tubs closed. Lots of places still forced closed or greatly regulate how many inside.
I live here and i wouldnt stay if i didnt have to.

Yeah the Queen just renewed our lock down for another month, then tonight they announced someone who had been to the UK brought back version 2 so we're going to be on lock down for a long time. Some resteraunts have walk up or call in and they will bring it out to the car. Otherwise you are stuck with fast food joints only. Not sure what it is like in bigger cities, but in my little town people either wear masks or they don't. Local coffee/sandwich shop already had a driveup window, and the restaurant on the main road through town has a walk up window on the side, I just call in my order and tell the girls I at the front door and they bring it out to us. Bank lobby is closed unless you call ahead and they open up and let you in.

Despite the doom and gloomers, there are still lots of places open with heated patio seating to get a cold beer and great food. I go to them regularly, to include tonight. PM me (because it notifies me) and ill give you some spots.

Edit: this is for Albuquerque

I do believe I said I have no idea what is happening in Alb. I go to Alb. for mom's eye doctor once every 3 months or so then we get out and come home.

Dallas sucks abd fort worth is still locked down more than it needs to be.

where are you staying in DFW?

I vote road trip. Have an adventure and have a blast. Just go for it, even if everything isn't known ahead of time.

Which is :confused: to me. You can't eat inside but you can eat in a tent. Many places have them set up in their parking lots for their patrons.

Anyway OP, good luck in ABQ. Try and stay well north of I40 if you stay there overnight. I hate that city, too many years off working there in the shittiest parts I guess.

When did I miss this?

But yeah, NM sucks far worse than normal right now.

If youre coming from Northern CA, have you thought about going through SLC then hitting the western slope of Colorado? That drive from monrtose to Durango would be sweet right now (minding the weather of course).

Definitely that trip will be awesome.

Vegas are open. AZ are open in case you're passing through Flagstaff or anywhere else.

Some local mom and pop are more paranoid that don't allow dine in or strict on mask from walking anywhere inside their restaurant and tables are 6 ft apart of every other is closed.

I recommend above for trip while traffic is lighter than usual because of the kung flu. I took advantage of road trips during the time due to much less traffic. Able stay at relative/friends places.

Check in on the snow weather and road condition and have fun!

Off hand... no input but

AZ is in a serious covid climate. Per capita the most cases of any state as of today.

im not doom and gloom, he asked about going out for nice meal, i dont consider going somewhere and eating outside or in a tent heated or not to be a nice meal when its 20-30 degrees.

Oh, you meant Las Vegas NV? Sad about ABQ because there are some cool things to see and a lot of really good places to eat. Spent a lot time there in the 80s and 90s for simulator training at Kirtland.

The Queen has decided to let restaurants to open up to 25% ocupancy!
Listening to mom's TV news one restaurant owner said it maybe days before they can open up depending on if he can find the help.

Yeah I caught that with a latter broadcast, trying to figure out how my county is still in the red and Bernallilo is yellow

Nevada’s Governor is probably going to lighten the lockdown tomorrow around 4pm. Restaurant dining is 4 people and 25% capacity. It’s probably going to 50% capacity. Other businesses might go to 50% just like it was before everything blew up in November.
