What's new

Copart question

Ill toss an offer of $351. Because I dont want a 2wd Ranger, but I want to outbid assbackwards :flipoff2:

I've bought a lot of charity cars from salvage auctions, and looked at hundreds if not thousands of them that I didn't bid on or didn't get.
I almost never bid on one I haven't seen, unless it's scrap price and I can't go wrong.
Most clear title stuff at salvage auctions are garbage, usually donated because it needs something major and they want to write off the full amount of it's value.
Of all of the ones I thought were okay and bought I've still got stuck with bad transmissions and rear ends and other stuff you can't tell without driving. There have been a few gems that there was absolutely nothing wrong with.

The charities always have a ridiculously high floor, usually they run a few weeks and take a low offer. It's different with each seller but if you do it enough you learn when they will probably let it go.
Most of the time it went like this: first run $800 high bid but they counter at $3500. Each time it ran it brought less money until a couple weeks later they let it go for $150.

I ended up buying a ‘95 Ranger 4x4 ext cab with front end damage off Copart. 5-speed. 185k miles. Pretty rust free.
The only damage I can find is the grill and headlights, and the bumper is bent on one side. Airbag did not go off.

With purchase price and all fees I was at about $2500.

Grill and headlights are about $180 and should be here by Monday or Tuesday.

Hopefully I’ll end up around $3k all in when it’s done.

It runs good, the 4.0 is quiet, no odd engine noise. Clutch feels good and 4x4 works.

I googled the previous owner and it was a 82yo guy.

I had the daughter take off the old parts and will help her install the new. Then we are going to put new brakes on it. I’ll show her how and let her do the work. This will be a good learning opportunity for her.

Anything else local at that price range is beat to fuck or rusted out.

It’s strait and clean on both sides. Pretty odd for a ranger that old around here. No rust holes anywhere.

I've won the auction for a 2015 A3 Audi 4 times now but they keep renigging on it.

Buy it now was at 4k and a day before auction was changed to 5k.

First auction was for $2100, 2nd $1375, 3rd $1020 and last was $325

There's 4 or 5 cars that have been in easily 10 auctions at this point. Would finger the owner would decide to go elsewhere or sell it for what the auction is bringing.

I've never been contacted, just says I won, but waiting on approval then a day or two later my win is erased and it's like I never bid or won it. And it's relisted.

5k probably not horrible but after all the fees, that will be like $6500

I figured out why you eat nothing yet work 300hr weeks

protip: don't buy a VW
Nah, 84-90hr weeks.

It's to replace my rusting out VW I've had for almost 15 years

The seller is doing you a favor by not selling it to you.

while your pd is a piece of shit compared to a ve
the CR motors are even worse
and the gas motors are all worst than that
well, the 8v gas motors are halfway okay but they weren't offered in the audis

No issues with my car, just it's rusting out. Bought it in 2010 and have put around 100k miles on it.

Probably only complaint is the heat is shit, but it's been like that since new.

just keep winning it every week- if seller is an insurance co, eventually they’ll sell it to you for $900.

I did something similar to what you describe on a car at iaai salvage auction and won it for a couple hundred less than the prior week for several consecutive weeks. The last few weeks, They’d offer it to me buy it now for 40-75% more than the final bid number, and I’d fire back with like $25 more than ending bid. The last week, it ended the lowest of any week, I refused to budge in response to their offer of buy it now for $500 more than the ending bid, and they awarded me the sale at my bid price.

Won it again today for $625 and an RS3 for 7200. They renigged on both within 2 hours.
It's an utter waste of my time.
Ritchie Bros would be hung from a tall tree if they pulled that shit!

Have you contacted them and asked?

Won it again yesterday and sent an offer 2 days before.
My bid again renigged and no answer to the offer.
Now it no longer exists in their inventory.

Talk about a shady auction!
