I'm looking to go see Metallica at soldier field. I haven't gone to a lot of concerts. The stage is apparently a circle in the middle of the stadium and seating is being sold 360° around the stage.

How the **** does that work? Is there a side Id rather be on? They don't like, spin the whole time or something do they?

I have been to concerts like that. You just never know. Depending on how the artists feel that night you might get to see them for an hour you might get to see them for 5 minutes over the course of 2 hours.

Just never know. When wife and i go to concerts like that we actually get seats that are convenient rather than up-close and personal so we can enjoy the food and the bathrooms and enjoy the music rather than worry about what is in front of you blocking your view.
Or be forced to stand just to see the concert.

They work the round rather well. Hatfield will have multiple mic stands around the circle, and the players (except Lars on the drums) will move around pretty constantly.

That is both good to know and sorta sucks lol

They don't give those tickets away that's for sure, to have limited viewing of the show.

OP
just get in there and get up front :grinpimp:

Metallica typically always has put on a good show in the past, but they are slowing down with age
I have seen them probably 8 or so times, would go again (if that is your band)

First time I saw Metallica in 06 it was like this. Thr stage was a giant cir le that rotated slowly throughout the show so thr view was constantly changing

They have been doing concerts in the round since like 01. They have it down pretty well. Having a round stage with nothing on it makes the chances of falling down and breaking a hip way less.

I just avoid this problem by avoiding arena/stadium shows. It doesn't hurt that I'm completely unwilling to pay the prices. I'd just rather see smaller acts in smaller venues.
My thoughts exactly. **** ****ty expensive arena shows with ****ty sound.

Give me good show in an outdoor amphitheater like the Shoreline or the Greek that is built for concerts and not stupid football.

100%

It's almost impossible to get good sound in a football stadium, even for the big hitters of FOH. Stadiums are designed to be loud, 12th man and all that bull****. Theaters are where it's at.

We saw them in Detroit last November and will be going to the Chicago show as well.

As stated, multiple mic stands around the stage. James, Kirk and Rob all move around quite a bit. Lars has 4 separate drum kits. Every 4th song or so the current one will lower down into the stage and another will pop up. There is also a moving platform that Rob usually gets on during Belz and rides that around the snake pit.

**** the haters, they may be old but they still put on a great show. I've lost count how many times I've seen them. Been to every show in Michigan and a bunch in the surrounding states since the Load era. The November show was the best they have sounded in years.

When I saw Metallica, they were great. They moved around the stage pretty good and if I remember right, Lars even moves around. His drum set would disappear under the stage and pop back up in a different spot. This was just a few months ago so I would imagine it would be the same at Soldier Field. It was good!

**** all the pussies who say they aren't worth seeing.:flipoff2:

years back Metallica had a thing where the stage fell apart, like the whole thing just crumbled and fell

by the end of the show, they were playing off a 'single' amp and one white old school light bulb hanging like a 80's drop light

it was still good, just a different good:grinpimp: (and I went back for more)

The kid wants to go to a concert, now I need to go look for tickets

^^Red Rocks.

But small venues if you actually care about what it sounds like. I realize you are not going to see some washed up, burned out, has been, overhyped "rock band" at a small venue :stirthepot:

All that being said, I saw Pearl Jam at Soldier Field in '96. It sucked :flipoff2:

My son and I are going to their Friday show at Soldier field as well. I've seen them twice, and told him he really should see them before they quit. Also seeing what's left of Pantera, so hoping for a great show

Pantera wasn't bad in Detroit. Zack Wylde does a great job and is a suitable replacement for Dimebag. Played everything you'd expect them to play with the exception of Cemetery Gates. They only played the opening and dedicated it to Dime and Vinne.

I've seen Wylde as Ozzys guitarist and as the front man for his own band, BLS. When he's only playing lead, he's awesome. When he's the front man, every song turns into a 10 minute guitar solo. We get it...you're good, but we didn't come to see a jam band.

Mammoth WVH was also good as an opener the first night. Crowd was still filtering in during their set and they still gave 100%.

The second night, Ice Nine Kills was first opener and they sucked hard. Even if it's not my type of music, I can still appreciate a good show and this wasn't even close to it. Horrible sound and vocals.

FFDP was 2nd and it wasn't that great either. I've seen them two other times as head liners and that was a better show. Ivan just didn't seem all that interested and relied on his backup singer more than usual. There was a Lions playoff game happening at the same time as their set and he (Ivan) was giving the crowd updates on that throughout the set and seemed excited for the city/team to finally make it that far into the post season.

Believe me, I want to go to Red Rocks, i just gotta figure out who I want to see there. There’s not many tours worth watching right now.

The Gorge is on my list too.
